PARIS NICE: RUDY MOLARD WINS THE 6th STAGE
After Arnaud Démare’s victory after Stage 1, Groupama-FDJ does it again and wins Stage 6, with a super-strong Rudy Molard. Two days before the end of the race, Rudy is 13th at general classification. Quotes.
Rudy Molard, winner of Paris-Nice stage 6: “When taking up the end of the race, I thought very hard about the ‘Haut-Var’ a few weeks ago. I lost the sprint and ended 3rd. When I saw Julian Alaphilippe was there for the sprint, I told myself ‘if you stay with me, you’re done’. I had to cross the line by myself, I wanted this victory so much. So I risked it all, I’d rather lose everything than finish 3rd. I really think my defeat at Haut-Var helped me being more offensive today.
This year, I feel stronger. I spent my first year working for the leaders, Arnaud or Thibaut in the mountains, I gave of myself 100%, I did one major race after another and it helped me pass a milestone. This victory confirms this. I have personal objectives now: Paris-Nice was one of them and then the Ardennes classics will come. I finished 8th of Fleche-Wallonne last year, I would like to be Top 5 this year and why not Top 10 in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Then, I’ll be back as a domestique, a position I love. I made a lot of progress and I know I can do it”.
PARIS NICE: IGNATAS KONOVALOVAS IS OUT OF THE RACE
Because of a persistent pain at the knee since Wednesday’s time-trial, Ignatas Konovalovas put an end to his Paris-Nice today, in order to rest a little bit and preserve his objectives to come.
