Romain Bardet: „There are always strong riders and a big battle on Paris-Nice“

After two years essentially focused on the Giro, Romain Bardet has put the general classification of the Tour de France back in his sights for 2023 and thus returns to Paris-Nice with this in mind. Ten years after his debut in the Race to the Sun, the Frenchman will ride for the first time in the DSM jersey of the Dutch team, with which he has been since the 2021 season. Fifth in the general classification in 2019, he will have the opportunity to measure himself against Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar this year.

Romain Bardet, how do you feel after the opening races that launched your season in the south of France?
I think this was the best programme to allow me to prepare for Paris-Nice, the best way to arrive in shape. I am not yet at my peak, but my legs are good. I have to get over a little virus which weakened me last weekend, but it will pass quickly. I had a mechanical problem in the Ardèche, which prevented me from going for the win, and the next day on the Drôme Classic, I felt that I was lacking a bit of punch in the run to the finish. But despite the cold, it was still a very intense race, and this work was helpful.

Do you remember the 2013 Paris-Nice and your sixth place in Brioude, which is still your best result on a stage?
Indeed, that goes back a long way. It was my second professional year, but above all, the one in which I genuinely discovered the elite level. Everything was new, and I understood too well that I was entering another dimension. The conditions were difficult for the Brioude stage, but I was up to it. I quickly realised that Paris-Nice was a very demanding race.

What do you mean?
I think it’s the toughest one-week race on the entire calendar. It is right behind the big tours. It is not where I feel most at ease, but there is always a good fight. The tension is constant. It’s a difficult race, with always a steep stage early in the week, then there is the wind factor, then a time trial, and then the final weekend with a series of climbs. The Dauphiné is easier for me because the ascent is more progressive. And Tirreno-Adriatico has more days reserved for the sprinters, so it is not as hard.

Have you made this Paris-Nice an intermediate objective?
More than anything else, it is an essential race in the build-up to my season. Getting my bearings with a new group will be one of the challenges. I spent some time with my teammates in training. We have excellent young riders and real talents. Casper Van Iden and Pavel Bittner are more sprinter-punchers. They need to get their teeth into it. And Max Poole is only 19 years old, but he is a great climber in the making. He fell last Sunday, and I still hope he can be with us so that he can dive into the deep end.

The Col de la Couillole stage will be the big event, but have you been able to study the route in detail?
First, I will make a reconnaissance ride of the opening stage, which could be good. Then, the team time trial is a double-edged sword because of the armadas that will be present. As for the rest, I know the sector very well of the last three stages, and I can tell you that the La Colle-sur-Loup ascent is tremendously difficult, and you can’t be off that day. As for the La Couillole climb, I have already ridden it several times, and I did it again last week.

As a general classification rider, is it realistic to aim for victory with favourites like Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar?
We’ll see. They’ve been flying since the start of the season. And they are also with some big teams, that’s for sure. But whatever happens, there are always strong riders and a big battle in Paris-Nice. So, I still go there saying I will ride my race. I have to rely on my legs first and my form.
Historical series: trial balloons

Stage race organizers sometimes innovate in the way they run time trials. This year, Paris-Nice is experimenting with a special style of team time trial, with the times achieved by each rider being used for the day’s classification. An individual time trial run by teams, in short, is a strange idea. But the history of cycling is not lacking in unusual attempts at time trials. Frankreich dominiert in Lienz: Pinot gewinnt die Etappe, Bardet die #TotA

Eine spektakuläre Schlussetappe mit Start und Ziel in Lienz bescherte dem Franzosen Romain Bardet den Gesamtsieg bei der Tour of the Alps 2022 und seinem Landsmann Thibaut Pinot eine gelungene Revanche nach der Enttäuschung von Kals am Großglockner. Bilbao scheitert am Aufstieg nach Stronach und beschert Frankreich einen denkwürdigen Tag
Vielleicht war es einfach Schicksal und so vorherbestimmt, bei einem Rennen, das die #LiveUphill-Botschaft in sich trägt. Im Leben wie auf den Straßen des Radsports darf man nie aufgeben, denn man weiß nie, was der nächste Tag bringen wird. So war es auch auf der fünften, letzten und entscheidenden Etappe der Tour of the Alps 2022 über 114,5 km von Lienz nach Lienz.

Es war ein Finale mit einem spannenden Drehbuch, das zwei französische Talente nach schwierigen Jahren wieder auf die große Bühne gebracht hat. Romain Bardet und Thibaut Pinot sind zwei unterschiedliche, aber ähnliche Talente: beide sind Etappenfahrer des französischen Radsports, beide sind voller Erwartungen und Ansprüche, beide können diese aber nur zeitweise erfüllen. Und doch ist das Schicksal in der Lage, Tage der Revanche anzubieten, wenn man es am wenigsten erwartet.
Dass sich Romain Bardet in einer hervorragenden Form befindet, zeigte sich bereits am Montag im Ziel in Primiero/S. Martino di Castrozza und bestätigte sich auch in den folgenden Etappen, aber der Athlet des Teams DSM fuhr die ersten vier Etappen ohne zu attackieren. Er brauchte nur eine Attacke am schwierigen Stronach-Anstieg, um den bis heute Morgen Führenden der Gesamtwertung, Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-Victorious), zu distanzieren und das Grüne Melinda-Trikot im Ziel in Lienz zu übernehmen.
Es war ein Sieg der Kraft und der Cleverness, den er zusammen mit seinem Teamkollegen Thymen Arensman, der den dritten Platz in der Gesamtwertung holte, feiern konnte. Damit dürfte mit dem Franzosen auch beim Giro d’Italia zu rechnen sein. Ebenfalls auf dem Podium landete Michael Storer (Groupama-FDJ), Zweiter mit einem Rückstand von nur 14″ auf Bardet, was zeigte, dass diese Tour of the Alps 2022 bis zum Ende offen war.

Aber der Tag in Lienz am Freitag, den 22. April 2022, sprach auch in Bezug auf den Etappenerfolg Französisch. Wir hatten ihn nach dem Zieleinlauf in Kals am Großglockner unter Tränen auf dem Asphalt zurückgelassen, nachdem er auf dem letzten Kilometer von Miguel Angel Lopez überholt worden war. Es schien die x-te Verhöhnung einer oft unglücklichen Karriere zu sein, aber stattdessen wollte das Schicksal Thibaut Pinot belohnen, der zum ersten Mal seit seinem Sieg auf dem Col du Tourmalet bei der Tour de France 2019 wieder erfolgreich war.

Er hatte es heute Morgen beim Start in Lienz gesagt: „Ich werde es heute wieder versuchen“, und so war es auch. Diesmal konnte nicht einmal ein mechanisches Problem zu Beginn des Stronach-Anstiegs die Revanchegelüste des Franzosen stoppen, der bereits auf den Rampen der zweiten Bergwertung des Tages versuchte, David de La Cruz loszuwerden, ihn aber erst am Schlussanstieg abhängen konnte und schließlich die Arme in den Himmel recken durfte.
Immer versuchen, niemals aufgeben. Dies ist der Geist, den die Tour of the Alps mit ihrem Motto #LiveUphill fördert. Romain Bardet und Thibaut Pinot haben das perfekt umgesetzt. Chapeau.

GEGEN DIE STEIGUNGEN, DEN REGEN UND DIE KÄLTE

Die Ausreißer des Tages brauchten 26 km, um sich abzusetzen. Fünfzehn Fahrer setzten sich anfangs ab, doch schon bald, als sie die erste Passage des Bannbergs passierten, waren es nur noch fünf: De La Cruz, Pinot, Arrieta Lizarraga (Equipo Kern Pharma), Iturria Segurola (Euskatel-Euskadi) und Traeen (Uno-X Pro Cycling Team).
Die GC-Gruppe wich zurück und die Ausreißer gewannen Kilometer für Kilometer an Boden. Auf der anschließenden Abfahrt waren die beiden stärksten Fahrer allein an der Spitze, bis sie mit 12.30 Vorsprung auf die Führenden der Gesamtwertung den Schlussanstieg nach Stronach erreichten.
Nachdem er auf den ersten Rampen ein mechanisches Problem überwunden hatte, konnte sich Pinot von seinem Begleiter absetzen, aber der Spanier konnte sich auf der Abfahrt wieder fangen.
Beim Aufstieg zur Lienzer Zettersfeldbahn kam beim Franzosen aber die Lust zur Revanche. Mit einem scharfen Sprint weniger als 300 Meter vor dem Ziel ließ er de La Cruz zurück, während ein großartiger Lennard Kämna das Tagespodium mit 1.46 Minuten Rückstand vervollständigte.

Der Kampf um die Gesamtwertung wurde am anspruchsvollen Stronach-Anstieg entschieden, der 3,1 km lang ist und einen Durchschnitt von 12,4% aufweist. Das Team DSM lag von den ersten Rampen an in Führung, wobei Thymen Arensman das Tempo vorgab und Pello Bilbao sofort in Schwierigkeiten brachte.
Bardet, Storer und Arensman setzten sich ab und konnten am letzten Anstieg 39 Sekunden Vorsprung auf Bilbao herausfahren, um die drei Stufen auf dem Podium zu erklimmen.

Der Niederländer Thymen Arensman (Team DSM) gewann das Würth Modyf Trikot des besten Jungfahrers, während sich Thibaut Pinot das rote PMG Sport Trikot des besten Sprinters sichern konnte. Das hellblaue Gruppo Cassa Centrale Trikot für den besten Kletterer ging an den Norweger Torstein Traeen (Uno-X)

„Zuerst habe ich nicht an einen möglichen Erfolg in der Gesamtwertung geglaubt, aber heute haben wir uns gegenseitig im Team angeschaut und beschlossen, es zu versuchen. Der Schlussanstieg war der härteste der ganzen Woche, aber das Ergebnis entschädigt für die ganze Arbeit“, sagte Bardet.
„Ich wollte Bilbao nicht bis zum Schlusssprint mitnehmen, deshalb habe ich mich entschieden, zusammen mit Arensman zu pushen: wir sind zusammen auf dem Podium gelandet, es lief besser als erwartet.“
„Ich und Thibaut kennen uns schon lange, ich freue mich für ihn, heute ist ein großer Tag für den französischen Radsport und ein sehr gutes Zeichen für unsere Saison.“
„Die Tour of he Alps hat mich auch in diesem Jahr in technischer und organisatorischer Hinsicht beeindruckt, eine Meinung, die ich mit dem gesamten Team teile. Es ist ein wunderschönes Rennen, und außerdem ist es für Kletterer wie mich sehr geeignet. Und wenn ich eines Tages umziehen sollte, könnten diese Gebiete wirklich meine Heimat werden“.

Thibaut Pinot: „Das ist ein wirklich sehr wichtiger Sieg für meine Karriere, an einem unglaublichen Tag. Heute war es eine klassische ‚verrückte‘ Etappe, aber ich bin froh, nach so langer Zeit wieder zu gewinnen.“
„Die Tour of he Alps ist ein Rennen mit schönen Bergen und Landschaften, mit sehr schönen Zielankünften und einer fantastischen Atmosphäre. Es ist auf jeden Fall mein Lieblingsrennen, und ich mag das Konzept mit den kurzen, schnellen Etappen sehr.“
„Gestern war ich sehr enttäuscht, ich war nach langer Zeit endlich wieder so nah am Sieg dran und dachte fast, dass ich es nie wieder schaffen würde. Wenn ich so darüber nachdenke, hat mir der gestrige zweite Platz die Augen geöffnet und mich erkennen lassen, dass ich noch einige Karten ausspielen kann, dass ich noch gewinnen kann. Ich kann zwar immer noch mehr geben, aber ich bin wieder konkurrenzfähig.“

FÜNF JAHRE OHNE SCARPONI: TESFATSION ÜBERNIMMT DAS TRIKOT DES KÄMPFERISCHSTEN FAHRERS
An diesem Tag vor fünf Jahren, gerade zurück von der Tour of he Alps, bei der er die erste Etappe Innsbruck-Hungerburg gewonnen hatte, ereilte Michele Scarponi im Training auf den Straßen seiner Heimat ein tragisches Schicksal.
Die Erinnerung an den Champion aus den Marken ist untrennbar mit der Tour of the Alps verbunden, er bleibt in den Herzen aller Radsportfans. Heute wurde beim euroregionalen Etappenrennen das Gedenken an Michele an der Startlinie zelebriert, wo ein ihm gewidmetes Sondertrikot an Natnael Tesfatsion (Drone Hopper-Androni) verliehen wurde: Tesfatsion wurde zum kämpferischsten Fahrer dieser Ausgabe gewählt wurde.

Das Trikot von Alé Cycling trägt auf der Brust auch den Namen der Michele-Scarponi-Stiftung, die sich im Namen des verstorbenen Weltmeisters für die Sicherheit im Straßenverkehr einsetzt. Das Trikot wurde auf der Bühne in Lienz von Micheles Familie, vertreten durch seinen Bruder Marco und seine Mutter Flavia, und von Alessia Piccolo, CEO von APG, dem Unternehmen, das die Marke Alè Cycling besitzt, überreicht

Lennard Kämna Dritter auf einer brutalen Abschlussetappe bei der Tour of the Alps

Nicht nur das Streckenprofil, sondern auch heftiger Regen setzte heute den Fahrern auf der letzten Etappe der Tour of the Alps zu. Nach einem erbitterten Kampf um die Gruppe setzten sich letztlich 15 Fahrer vom Feld ab und für BORA – hansgrohe war es einmal mehr Lennard Kämna der den Sprung in die Gruppe des Tages schaffte. Am vorletzten Anstieg fielen zuerst 9 Fahrer aus der Spitze zurück, bevor sich Pinot und De la Cruz entscheidend von den verbliebenen Fahrern um Kämna lösen konnten. Kämna gelang es am letzten Berg seine Gefährten abzuschütteln, während an der Spitze Pinot auch De la Cruz abhängen konnte. Obwohl der Spanier in der Abfahrt noch einmal aufschließen konnte, sicherte sich Pinot am Ende einen souveränen Sieg. Lennard erreichte dahinter als Dritter das Ziel, sichtlich gezeichnet von den Strapazen. Im Kampf um den Gesamtsieg distanzierte R. Bardet am letzten Anstieg gemeinsam mit T. Arensman und M. Storer den bis dato führenden P. Bilbao. Damit schnappte der Franzose sich am Ende die Gesamtwertung. Cian Uijtdebroeks fuhr ebenfalls erneut ein starkes Rennen und erreichte das Etappenziel in einer Gruppe um M. Landa. Damit beendet er die Tour of the Alps 2022 auf dem 16. Gesamtrang.

Von der Ziellinie
„Es war echt brutal von Beginn an. Als ich endlich in der Gruppe war, hatte ich schon wieder richtig viele Körner gelassen und am zweiten Berg war es dann wie ein Ausscheidungsfahren. Mir fehlt immer noch ein Stück zu meiner Bestform und darum war es nicht möglich, an Pinot dran zu bleiben. Wir sind dann in meiner Gruppe ein gutes Tempo gefahren und am Ende konnte ich die anderen noch abschütteln. Ich denke, ich habe diese Woche einen guten Schritt gemacht. Die Richtung stimmt und ich bin gut drauf, darum bin auch für den Giro optimistisch.“ – Lennard Kämna

„Ich habe versucht, heute in die Gruppe zu kommen, aber obwohl ich es einige Male versucht habe, hat es leider nicht geklappt. Danach habe ich mich dann auf den Schlussanstieg konzentriert. Das Tempo war aber schon davor sehr hoch und ich bin etwas zu weit hinten in den Berg hineingefahren. Es gingen schnell Lücken auf und ich bin dann meinen Rhythmus gefahren, um am letzten Kilometer etwas weiter nach vorne zu kommen. Es war ein wirklich harter Tag und ein brutales Finale, aber ich bin mit meiner Leistung sehr zufrieden. Ich war wieder nicht weit zurück und in meiner Gruppe waren große Namen. Die ganze Woche war eigentlich sehr gut für mich. Ich weiß, wo ich mich noch verbessern muss, denn auf diesem Niveau kostet jeder kleine Fehler viel Energie, die am Ende fehlt. Aber ich bin jung und habe sicherlich genug Zeit, all diese Dinge zu lernen.“ – Cian Uijtdebroeks

Bardet gewinnt Tour of the Alps, Gall wird 6.!

Die Abschlussetappe der Tour of the Alps in Osttirol brachte bei widrigen Witterungsbedingungen einen Umsturz: Während Thibaut Pinot den Etappensieg feierte, schnappte sich der Franzose Romain Bardet noch den Gesamtsieg! Felix Gall lieferte wieder ein starkes Rennen ab und feierte mit dem sechsten Gesamtplatz den größten Erfolg seiner Karriere!

Die fünfte und letzte Etappe der Tour of the Alps entwickelte sich zu einem richtigen Spektakel in Osttirol! Auf dem 114,5 Kilometer langen Teilstück mit Start am Lienzer Hauptplatz und Ziel bei der Zettersfeld Talstation sorgte zudem Regen für noch mehr Nervenkitzel. Vor dem Schlusstag der UCI Pro Series-Rundfahrt ging es in der Gesamtwertung knapp her, denn nicht weniger als zwölf Athleten befanden sich innerhalb von nur 20 Sekunden. Mit dabei war auch der Gesamtvierte und Lokalmatador Felix Gall, der Junioren-Weltmeister von 2015. Eine Hiobsbotschaft gab es für den 24-jährigen vom Team AG2R-Citroen vor dem Start, denn durch Stürze und Krankheiten konnte er nur noch auf zwei Helfer zählen.

Noch vor der ersten Bergwertung Bannberg setzte sich eine 20-köpfige Spitzengruppe ab. Bei dem Anstieg lösten sich aus der Spitze fünf Fahrer, mit dabei war der gestrige Etappenzweite Thibaut Pinot und Etappensieger Lennard Kämna. Das Feld hatte nach rund 40 Kilometern bereits über vier Minuten Rückstand. Über die Pustertaler Höhenstraße zersplittete die Spitze komplett und Groupama-Profi Thibaut Pinot und David de la Cruz von Astana setzten sich an die Spitze. Das Feld hatte bereits über sieben Minuten Rückstand. Da vorne alle Fahrer wegen großen Zeitrückständen im Gesamtklassment keine Rolle mehr spielten, entwickelte sich im immer kleiner werdenden Hauptfeld ein spannender Kampf.

Während Thibaut Pinot, der Tour of the Alps-Gesamtsieger von 2018, auf dem Schlussanstieg de la Cruz abhängen konnte, griffen Romain Bardet und sein DSM-Teamkollege Thymen Arensman auf der alten Iselbergstraße an. Bei diesem spektakulären Anstieg mit vielen Zuschauern konnte der bis heute Führende Pello Bilbao nicht mehr folgen. Mit dem 8. Etappenplatz feierte Bardet, der 2016 bereits Zweiter der Tour de France wurde, in letzter Minute einen eindrucksvollen Gesamtsieg! Er gewann 14 Sekunden vor Michael Storer (Groupama-FDJ) und 16 Sekunden vor seinem DSM-Teamkollegen Arensman, dem besten Nachwuchsfahrer der Tour. Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-Victorious) rutschte noch vom Podium auf Rang vier, gefolgt von Attila Valter und Felix Gall, der schließlich 53 Sekunden Rückstand hatte.

Gall: „Traumwoche geht zu Ende!“
Der 24-jährige Osttiroler Felix Gall feierte heute den größten Erfolg seiner Karriere: „Rang sechs bei dieser Rundfahrt zählt für mich viel mehr als der Junioren-Weltmeistertitel. Ich konnte mit den besten Kletterern der Welt mithalten und bin sehr stolz auf diese Leistung. Jetzt kommen ein paar ruhigere Tage, ehe bald der Giro d’Italia, das nächste Saisonhighlight folgt.“ Sein Landsmann Hermann Pernsteiner, der die Tour of the Alps als Zwölfter beendete, freute sich auch im Ziel mit Felix: „Wir Österreicher haben uns sehr stark hier präsentiert. Felix hatte in den letzten beiden Jahren zu kämpfen, jetzt hat er den Durchbruch geschafft! Ich freue mich riesig mit ihm über dieses Ergebnis. Für mein Team ist es heute leider nicht nach Wunsch gelaufen. Leider waren einige Fahrer heute stärker als wir.“

Felix Großschartner behält GC Top-10 Platzierung nach anspruchsvoller 14. Etappe bei der Vuelta a España

Die Etappe begann relativ einfach, zeigte sich aber ab der zweiten Hälfte von ihrer schweren Seite, denn zum Schluss ging es hoch zum 14,5 km langen Pico Villuercas, der teilweise 10 Prozent Steigung aufwies. Nach mehreren erfolglosen Attacken setzte sich in der ersten Rennstunde eine 18-Mann starke Gruppe ab. Nach einer Reihe von kurzen Anstiegen mit 50 km bis zum Ziel zerbröckelte die Ausreißergruppe, und letztendlich gelang es R. Bardet sich von seinen Fluchtgefährten zu distanzieren und den Etappensieg einzufahren. Dahinter in der Gruppe von GC Fahrern attackierte M. Lopez auf den letzten 3 km, wurde aber am Ende von P. Roglič fast wieder eingeholt. Nur Mas, Bernal und Haig konnten mit der Beschleunigung von Roglič mithalten. Felix Großschartner fuhr nicht weit hinter dieser Gruppe, und überquerte die Ziellinie 13 Sekunden nach diesem Quartett. Er behält damit seinen 10. Platz in der Gesamtwertung bei.

Bardet’s delight

Romain Bardet (Team DSM) achieved on stage 14 what he came for in La Vuelta 21: a spectacular stage win after an all-day battle in the mountains. The Frenchman was the strongest climber in the breakaway to take victory atop the unprecedented summit finish of Pico Villuercas, ahead of Jesus Herrada (Cofidis) and Jay Vine (Alpecin-Fenix). Bardet also takes the polka-dot jersey. Miguel Angel Lopez (Movistar Team) attacked his GC rivals and Odd Christian Eiking (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux) lost a few seconds but he hangs on to La Roja ahead of Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) and Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma).
La Vuelta 21 heads back into the mountains with almost 3,500m of elevation en route to an unprecedented summit finish at Pico Villuercas. After 9km of battle, 18 attackers make the break of the day: Clément Champoussin, Nicolas Prodhomme (AG2R-Citroën Team), Jay Vine (Alpecin-Fenix), Jan Tratnik (Bahrain Victorious), Dani Navarro (Burgos-BH), Aritz Bagües (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), Jesus Herrada (Cofidis), Jens Keukeleire (EF Education Nippo), Xabier Mikel Azparren (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Arnaud Démare, Kevin Geniets (Groupama-FDJ), Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers), Sep Vanmarcke (Israel Start-Up Nation), Matthew Holmes (Lotto Soudal), Andrey Zeits (Team BikeExchange), Romain Bardet (Team DSM), Dylan Sunderland (Team Qhubeka NextHash) and Ryan Gibbons (UAE Team Emirates).

Bardet dominates the first climbs
They cover 51.3km in the first hour of racing as they try to build a significant lead ahead of the climbing challenges of the day. The gap is up to 10’10’’ at the bottom of the first ascent (km 86.7), the cat-3 Puerto Berzocana (7.7km, 5.2%), followed by the extremely steep cat-1 Alto Collado de Ballesteros (2.8km, 14%). It’s the same mountain as Pico Villuercas, but from a different side, and not all the way to the top.
Bardet leads the break over the top of the two ascents to take the lead of the KOM standings. Prodhomme and Navarro attack their breakaway companions with 49km to go and open a gap of 1’. Holmes and Vanmarcke get back to them with 30km to go, and then Keukeleire, Champoussin, Herrada, Geniets, Tratnik, Zeits and Bardet also bridge the gap.

Bardet and Lopez on the hunt
Prodhomme goes again with 26km to the finish. Vanmarcke and Navarro follow him but they crash 3km further. The chasers get back together ahead of the final ascent: 14.5km, 6.2%. The Frenchman has a lead 1’ at the bottom. Meanwhile, Jumbo-Visma set the pace in the bunch with a gap up to over 14’.
Prodhomme pushes hard at the front, but Zeits and Bardet get back to him with 6km to go. And Bardet immediately counter-attack to make his way to a spectacular solo win, 44’’ ahead of Herrada and Vine. The Frenchman claims his fourth Grand Tour stage win. The first three happened on the Tour de France.
Meanwhile, Movistar Team, Cofidis and Trek-Segafredo up the ante on the final ascent. Miguel Angel Lopez (Movistar Team) sets off inside the last 3km. Steven Kruijswijk and Sepp Kuss control for Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), who crosses the line 4’’ behind the Colombian climber, alongside Enric Mas (Movistar Team), Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) and Jack Haig (Bahrain Victorious). Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) finishes 16’’ further behind and 4’’ ahead of Odd Christian Eiking (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux), who retains La Roja ahead of another mountain stage.

Pozzovivo takes 2nd on Burgos stage 3 – Aru also impresses as Italian duo climb up the GC

Romain Bardet (Team DSM) won stage 3 of the Vuelta a Burgos, crossing the line solo, with Domenico Pozzovivo (Team Qhubeka NextHash) leading the chase group home and taking 2nd, Mikel Landa (Bahrain-Victorious) was 3rd.

Stage 3 of the Vuelta a Burgos presented the first real test to the GC contenders as riders had to take on the well-known Picon Blanco climb. The complete stage covered 173km, with Picon Blanco peaking at just 18km to go, followed by a technical descent to the line.
An early break did go clear in the opening kilometers of the stage, but the peloton had no problem controlling the gap, ensuring the escapees would be caught on the climb.

Ineos-Grenadiers and EF-Education took up the pace setting on the lower slopes of the climb, but it was an acceleration from Fabio Aru that really put the pressure on, resulting in the main group thinning out. Giro d’Italia winner, Egan Bernal (Ineos-Grenadiers) then tried to control the pace for their protected rider, Pavel Sivakov, but new attacks soon followed.
Aru and Pozzovivo rode well in tandem, following the moves until just 11 riders remained in contention at 3km to go from the summit of the climb. It became quite tactical over the final uphill kilometers but it was Bardet who put in a telling attack just before the summit and got a 15″ gap.
Pozzovivo formed part of the first chase group with three other riders, Landa (Bahrain-Victorious), Nieve (Bike-Exchange) and Bouchard (AG2R Citroen), as the descent began. Aru followed a few seconds behind in the 2nd chase group.
Bardet went downhill like a rocket and extended his lead to 35″ over the Pozzovivo chase group. There was a big scare for Pozzovivo though as Bouchard crashed in front of him in one of the many corners, but our Italian managed to stay upright and resumed the chase.
Bardet also slid out right near the bottom of the descent but hardly lost any time with an impressive and rapid remount. The Frenchman held his gap to the line, taking a very good stage win. Pozzovivo led the now 3-rider chase group home, to take 2nd place on the stage.
Aru would finish in the next group of chasers, just 11″ behind the Pozzovivo group, and sprinted to 7th place on the stage. The strong rides from our Italian duo saw Pozzovivo climb to 3rd place on the overall GC with Aru moving up to 4th.

„Today was a stage that suited me better than the first two windy stages. On the last climb we did some great work, together with Fabio, it was just Bardet that got a jump on Landa and me at the top and we know that he is very strong on the downhill. I tried to avoid taking too many risks on the downhill. Me, Landa and Nieve tried to come back on Bardet but he was very strong, even on the flat sections. Finally, I was happy to come in 2nd with a good sprint because that is not my best skill. We look forward now with confidence in our shape for the final mountain stage and also to the Vuelta a Espana.“

BORA-hansgrohe verändert Taktik auf der Königsetappe des Giro nach dem gestrigen Ausscheiden von Emanuel Buchmann

Vor dem zweiten Ruhetag waren die Kletterer auf der Königsetappe wiederum gefordert. Aufgrund schlechter Wetterbedingungen in den Dolomiten wurde die Strecke kurzfristig von ursprünglich 212 km auf 153 km verkürzt sowie zwei Anstiege gestrichen. Nach dem Startschuss in Sacile, formierte sich schnell eine 24 Mann starke Ausreißergruppe, in der sich auch Felix Großschartner und Matteo Fabbro befanden. Sechs Fahrer setzten sich in der zweiten Rennhälfte aus dieser Spitzengruppe ab, während die beiden BORA – hansgrohe Fahrer in der Verfolgergruppe verblieben, die allerdings 50 km vor dem Ziel vom Feld wieder eingeholt wurde. Im Anstieg zur Cima Coppi wurde die Spitze vom verkleinerten Feld gestellt und es entstand ein Kampf unter den GC Favoriten, den letztendlich E. Bernal als Solist für sich entschied. Die BORA – hansgrohe Fahrer überquerten die Ziellinie in Cortina d’Ampezzo einige Zeit dahinter, während Peter Sagan das Maglia Ciclomina weiter behält.

„Heute war ein brutal harter Tag und Matteo und ich haben versucht in die Ausreißergruppe zu gehen und haben es auch geschafft. In der ersten Abfahrt hat die Gruppe sich ein bisschen geteilt. Sechs Fahrer waren dann vorne und die waren super stark. Ich muss zugeben, dass ich heute nicht den besten Tag hatte. Ich habe schon am ersten Berg richtig gelitten und so war der ganze Tag eine Qual. Aber wer weiß was noch in mir steckt. Jeder, der mich kennt, weiß dass ich ein Kämpfer bin und nicht leicht aufgebe. Ich werde es in den nächsten Tagen wieder probieren und hoffe, dass ich dann einen besseren Tag habe, um auf der Etappe zu kämpfen.“ – Felix Großschartner

„Es ist nicht einfach, wenn man den Kapitän nach zwei Drittel der Rundfahrt verliert und dann umdenken muss und versucht mit anderen Fahrern eine Etappe zu gewinnen. Aber wir haben es probiert und versucht mit Matteo und Felix in die Spitzengruppe zu kommen. Das ist uns auch gelungen. 24 Fahrer waren vorne und hatten sechs Minuten Vorsprung. Leider hat die Gruppe sich dann geteilt und sechs Fahrer sind weggefahren. Wir waren leider nicht mit dabei und mussten erkennen, dass unsere Bemühung nicht mit Erfolg gekrönt sein wird. Darum ließen wir unsere Jungs ruhig ins Ziel fahren, um einfach mal Energie zu sparen für die kommenden Etappen, wo wir versuchen werden einen Sieg einzufahren.“ – Jens Zemke, Sportlicher Leiter

The women’s race, which started at 09:12, also attracted the world’s best including Longo Borghini, Van Der Breggen, Niewiadoma and Ferrand Prevot. Today’s winners press conferences will be held at the end of each race.

Siena, 3 March 2018 – The men’s edition of the ‚Northern Classic in the South of Europe‘, now in its 12th edition, organised by RCS Sport/La Gazzetta dello Sport and part of the UCI WorldTour calendar, started today from Siena at 10:43 with 146 riders. Did not start: dossard number 167, Maarten Wynants (Team Lotto NL – Jumbo).

Among the women who will challenge for victory the favourites are last year’s winner Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5); Sofia Beggin and Sofia Bertizzolo (Astana Women’s Team); Anna Van Der Breggen (Boels Dolmans Cycling Team); Pauline Ferrand Prevot; Elena Cecchini and Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon // SRAM Racing), and Lucinda Brand and Ellen Van Dijk (Team Sunweb).

12th STRADE BIANCHE NAMEDSPORT – 184km, 11 sectors and 63km on gravel roads (34.2% of the course)

It’s a twisty and undulating course, with no long climbs but punchy hills, most significantly on the unpaved parts. There are roughly 63km of gravel roads, across 11 sectors (eight of those shared with the Women Elite course).

Starting from Siena (Stadium/Medicean Fortress area), the initial undulating kilometres are on Tarmac before reaching the 2.1km-long gravel Sector 1 at km 18, which is perfectly straight and slightly downhill.

After few kilometres the riders then face Sector 2 (5.8km), the course’s first real challenge with a short descent followed by a long climb with sections of over 10% gradient.

The course then goes through Radi, where gravel Sector 3 starts (4.4km; the second part of the race’s first edition gravel Sector 1) shortly followed by Sector 4 – named “La Piana” – and one of the race’s classic gravel sectors (5.5km in length and featured in the course since the first edition) with no significant gradient leading to Buonconvento.

After few kilometres the second climb of the day starts: the Montalcino (4km at 5%). Following Torrenieri the riders face Sectors 5 (11.9km) and 6 (8km) with only 1km of tarmac in between. Both are hard, hilly, very punchy and with many bends, climbs and descents.

After the second passage through Buonconvento the feed station will be positioned in the area of Ponte d’Arbia. Soon the route reaches Monteroni d’Arbia, which marks the beginning of Sector 7 of San Martino in Grania (9.5km) in the middle of the Crete Senesi. It’s a long sector with continuous up and downs in the first part, ending up with a twisting climb before meeting the Tarmac again.

In Ponte del Garbo (Asciano) gravel Sector 8 begins. At 11.5km it’s the hardest of the race, mostly uphill and characterised by tough hills, the most important being those close to Monte Sante Marie, with steep gradients on both climbs and descents over short distances. After Castelnuovo Berardenga there’s a very short, flat section of gravel (300m) before facing, after Monteaperti, Sector 9 – only 800m long, but with a double digit gradient ramp before rejoining the tarmac in Vico d’Arbia and paved road through Pieve a Bozzone.

Next comes the penultimate section of gravel (Sector 10, 2.4km) on the climb toward Colle Pinzuto (with gradients up to 15%). After a few kilometres the riders then face the last gravel section (Sector 11, 1.1km) which features a sequence of a demanding descents followed by a very punchy climb (max. 18%) that ends up at the Tolfe. From here only 12km separate the riders from the finish in Piazza del Campo, Siena.

Final Kilometres
The demanding final kilometres, with gradients up to 16%, approach the city of Siena along broad, straight sections of road, connected by sweeping curves, first descents and slight climbs. 2km from the finish line, the route joins Via Esterna di Fontebranda; here the gradient touches 9%.
900m from the finish line, the race route passes beneath Fontebranda Gate where the road surface becomes paving slabs. The gradient then exceeds 10% until 500m from the finish line, reaching its highpoint of 16% along Via Santa Caterina. A sharp right hand turn leads to Via delle Terme, and then Via Banchi di Sotto. With 300m to go, the road continues to climb slightly then, 150m from the line, a right turn leads into Via Rinaldini. The route enters the Piazza del Campo just 70m from the finish line. The final 30m descends at a gradient of 7% and the finish line itself is flat.

Starting from Siena (Stadium/Medicean Fortress area), the initial undulating kilometres are on Tarmac before reaching the 2.1km-long gravel Sector 1 at km 18, which is perfectly straight and slightly downhill.

After few kilometres the riders then face Sector 2 (5.8km), the course’s first real challenge with a short descent followed by a long climb with sections of over 10% gradient.

The course then goes through Radi, where gravel Sector 3 starts (4.4km; the second part of the race’s first edition gravel Sector 1) shortly followed by Sector 4 – named “La Piana” – and one of the race’s classic gravel sectors (5.5km in length and featured in the course since the first edition) with no significant gradient leading to Buonconvento.

After the passage through Buonconvento the feed station will be positioned in the area of Ponte d’Arbia. Soon the route reaches Monteroni d’Arbia, which marks the beginning of Sector 5 of San Martino in Grania (9.5km) in the middle of the Crete Senesi. It’s a long sector with continuous up and downs in the first part, ending up with a twisting climb before meeting the Tarmac again.

After Castelnuovo Berardenga there’s a very short, flat section of gravel (300m) before riders face, after Monteaperti, Sector 6 – only 800m long but with a double digit gradient ramp before rejoining the Tarmac in Vico d’Arbia and going to paved road through Pieve a Bozzone.

Next comes the penultimate gravel section (Sector 7, 2.4km) on the climb toward Colle Pinzuto (with inclines of up to 15%). After a further few kilometres the riders will face the last section of gravel (Sector 8, 1.1km) which features a sequence of a demanding descents followed by a very punchy climb (max 18%) that ends up at the Tolfe. From here only 12km separate the riders from the finish in Piazza del Campo, Siena.

Final kilometres are the same as the men’s course.

SIENA
It would have been too difficult to decide between Piazza del Campo and Torre del Mangia, between the cathedral and the other buildings of the same complex, such as the baptistery, the crypt and the grand façade (known as “Facciatone”). So the entire old town centre was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its outstanding artistic value. Siena is a true jewel of art, both sacred and profane at the same time, ever bustling with life and with more than a million visitors each year. It hosts major sporting and cultural events, such as the legendary Palio, staged twice a year, in which the 17 city quarters (“contrade”) challenge each other in front of large crowds coming from all over the country to attend the town’s most famous and iconic event.

The Strade Bianche is a legendary race that perfectly fits into a historical context that serves as an excellent setting for both the race start and finish. While waiting for riders to fly by, spectators can explore the city’s monuments and enjoy the many local delicacies, including wild boar sauces and specialties, ribollita, panforte (Siena’s iconic dessert), as well as world-renowned, refined wines, such as Chianti. Ricciarelli, traditional pastries made from almonds, sugar and egg whites, are the perfect snack while waiting for the finish.

Siena was founded by the Etruscans, it grew under the Romans, and was ruled by the Ghibellines and later the House of Medici. Nowadays, Siena belongs first and foremost to all those lucky ones who have visited or will be visiting this UNESCO World Heritage site. A must-see: Torre del Mangia. A must-taste: Ricciarelli. The best time to be in town: 4-5 March; or 2 July and 16 August – Palio di Siena.

Rigoberto Uran finishes second overall at 2017 Tour de France

A time trial in Marseille clinched the best general classification result for Slipstream Sports in the team’s nine-year Tour de France history.

Colombian Rigoberto Uran started stage 20 in third place overall, six seconds behind Frenchman Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale) and 29-seconds adrift of race leader Chris Froome (Team Sky). By stage finish, Uran had moved up one spot.

In Paris on Sunday evening, Uran climbed onto the podium as the 2017 Tour de France runner-up to Froome, who secured his fourth Tour title.

“Finishing second to Froome at less than a minute seems pretty good to me,” said Uran. “It’s a quality final podium in Paris, so this is the greatest success of my career. This result is dedicated to my family, friends, my team and everyone who has supported me during the last three weeks.”

While the 22-kilometer lone effort out on the roads of Marseille determined the final general classification order, it was, of course, a culmination of work done up until that point to put Uran in a position to capitalize on a strong penultimate stage time trial.

A stage win into Chambery on the final day of the first week announced Uran as contender. From there, Uran’s star rose alongside his results as he cannily pocketed bonus seconds, 22 in total, and carefully metered his efforts.

“We knew it would be difficult to win the Tour but not impossible, so we gave it everything,” said Uran. “It’s been a great Tour.”

At Uran’s disposal as the race unfolded was a Cannondale-Drapac squad that included three Americans and four Tour debutants, a team selected largely to target stage wins, breakaways and animate the race. The squad punched above their collective weight, particularly in the final two weeks of the Tour when general classification ambitions became more realistic, more poignant.

“Many things came together for us to end up here,” noted head sport director Charly Wegelius. “Rigo finally had a clear run at a three-week race without hiccups, on a route that suited both him and our style of racing. His teammates all rose to the occasion and made up for their lack of experience – we had four Tour rookies! – with heart and hard work. I’m very proud of them.”

Die Geschichte der 2. Etappe der TdF 2017 von Düsseldorf nach Lüttich ist schnell erzählt.

Das Wetter, nun ja, wie am Vortag gab es unterwegs viel Regen, aber zumindest waren der Start in Düseldorf und vor allem die Zielankunft in Lüttich trocken, in Belgien kam sogar kurz die Sonne zum Vorschein und der Zielsprint konnte auf trockener, leicht ansteigender Straße im Gegenwind ausgetragen werden.

Bei Km 0 gab es den Angriff des Tages, eine 4-köpfige Spitzengruppe bestehend aus Taylor Phinney (Cannondale-Drapac), Thomas Boudat (Direct Energie), Laurent Pichon (Fortuneo-Oscaro) und Yoann Offredo (Wanty-Gobert) konnte sich sofort vom Feld lösen.

Die Bergwertungen des Tages konnte sich nach langer Verletzungspause Taylor Phinney sichern, so dass er auf der 3. Etappe das Bergtrikot tragen darf.

Die Sprinterteams Lotto Soudal, Quickstep, FDJ und Katusha ließen aber nie große Zweifel aufkommen, dass der Tag in einem Massensprint enden würde und gewährten den 4 Ausreißern keinen großen Vorsprung.

30km vor dem Ziel, bei rund einer Minute Vorsprung, gab es an der Spitze des Hauptfelds in einer rutschigen Kurve auf nasser Straße einen Massensturz, Reto Hollenstein (Katusha) rutschte das Vorderrad weg und viele große Namen waren von dem Sturz betroffen, allen voran Geraint Thomas, Chris Froome und Romain Bardet, der vor der Etappe bei der Einschreibekontrolle in einem Interview seine hervorragenden Deutsch Kenntnisse anwenden konnte.

Abu Dhabi, 9. Februar 2017 – Die Liste der Mannschaften bei der nächsten Abu Dhabi Tour ist wirklich beeindruckend: 16 von 18 UCI WorldTeams nahmen die Einladung des Abu Dhabi Sports Council an, von Madinat Zayed am 23. Februar für die erste Etappe zu starten Die Wüste zum berühmten Wahrzeichen, Liwa Oase. Die weltbesten Rider sind bereit zum Rennen, darunter Nairo Quintana, Vincenzo Nibali, Fabio Aru, Steven Kruijswijk, Tejay van Garderen und Romain Bardet als General Classification (GC) -Kämpfer. Die Etappe 3 ist der Schlüssel für diese Fahrer mit dem legendären Jabel Hafeet-Aufstieg, der für das letzte Podium in den vorherigen Ausgaben der Abu Dhabi Tour entscheidend war. Viele der besten Sprinter der Welt konkurrieren auch mit Namen wie Mark Cavendish, Marcel Kittel, Elia Viviani, André Greipel und Caleb Ewan, die für Etappensiege kämpfen.

Cette dernière étape entre Chantilly et les Champs-Elysées était l’occasion pour tous les coureurs de savourer ces derniers moments sur la route du Tour. Rouler sur les Champs fermés à la circulation c’est toujours un moment exceptionnel.
C’est la fin d’une aventure humaine et ceux qui ont réussi de bons résultats ont eu le bonheur de monter sur le podium et de profiter de cet instant magique !

Le vainqueur de l’étape du jour :
La victoire d’étape au sprint est revenue à Andre Greipel qui trouve enfin le chemin de la victoire sur ce Tour.

Le maillot jaune :
Christopher Froome a finalement remporté son 3e succès dans le Tour de France. C’est de mon point de vue sa plus belle victoire, peut-être celle qui était la moins évidente. Il l’a doit très certainement à un sens tactique aiguisé. Il a en tout cas réussi à prendre un ascendant psychologique sur ses adversaires, sur un terrain où il n’attaque pas habituellement. En descente vers Bagnères-de-Luchon, sur le plat vers Montpellier. Il a rapidement mis le doute chez ses adversaires.
Il était ensuite entouré par une équipe impressionnante. Il n’a jamais été inquiété. Ses adversaires n’ont pas été à la hauteur de ce qu’ils devaient être en tout cas pour le déstabiliser.

Les autres maillots :

Maillot vert du meilleur sprinteur :
Comme beaucoup de spectateurs j’ai adoré l’attitude offensive de Peter Sagan qui remporte un 5e maillot vert. Avec 3 victoires d’étapes et tellement d’échappées, il a marqué cette édition du Tour de France par sa fraicheur et son dynamisme.
Il est en prime le super combatif de cette édition, bravo à lui c’est mérité !

Maillot à pois du meilleur grimpeur :
Rafal Majka est le meilleur grimpeur de ce Tour pour la 2e fois après son titre remporté en 2014.
Comme Sagan il a été souvent offensif sur ce Tour. Souvent à l’attaque c’est un coureur qui est aussi impressionnant dans son registre. Beaucoup de dynamisme dans cette équipe Tinkoff et une volonté d’aller toujours de l’avant pour essayer de décrocher quelque chose d’encore plus grand.
Majka sur le podium à Paris, ça aussi ça a été travaillé et forcément c’est mérité.

Maillot blanc du meilleur jeune :
Il est sur les épaules d’Adam Yates, un coureur que le grand public découvre. Malchanceux vers l’étape de Payolles, on se souvient de sa chute sous l’arche du dernier kilomètre, on pouvait alors penser qu’il serait incapable de tenir ce rang jusqu’à Paris.
C’est une belle découverte même si lui aussi est resté discret en montagne, sans jamais vraiment passer à l’attaque.

Et du côté des français ?
On va dire un grand chapeau à Romain Bardet pour le Tour qu’il a réalisé. Il venait avec l’objectif de faire un top 5. Il repart avec un podium, second du Tour ce n’est pas rien !
Evidemment on retiendra surtout le nom du vainqueur mais on se souviendra que dans ce Tour les français, s’ils ont animé, ont eu beaucoup de difficultés à trouver le chemin de la victoire.
Seul Romain Bardet a réussi à nous gratifier de ce bonheur de remporter une étape et à rendre ce Tour un peu plus attractif dans sa partie finale.
J’espère que c’est un échelon qui lui permettra de progresser encore, psychologiquement et physiquement et qu’il reviendra dans les années qui viennent avec l’intention de gagner et surtout la réussite qui va avec.
Bardet comme Pinot, sont deux garçons capables de gagner un jour le Tour de France. Il faut en être convaincu, moi je le suis !

Mon coup de coeur :
J’ai plusieurs coups de coeur sur ce Tour mais celui qui retient le plus mon attention c’est peut-être Pantano, le colombien de l’équipe IAM qui a été remarquable dans les Alpes. J’ai beaucoup aimé son agressivité en course, sa volonté et son sens tactique aussi. Au-delà de la fraicheur physique, de ses talents de grimpeur et de descendeur, c’est aussi un malin. On l’a vu mener des actions où on sentait qu’il était fatigué mais en fait il n’en était rien. Il était en train d’essayer d’avoir son adversaire un petit peu à la manière d’un vieux briscard.
Chapeau, c’est une belle révélation. C’est à mon sens la révélation sur ce Tour de France, même s’il n’est pas le plus jeune c’est une révélation aux yeux du grand public sur ce Tour.

Ce Tour 2016 est terminé. J’ai vécu trois semaines magnifiques sur un plan personnel. J’ai beaucoup vibré avec Romain Bardet notamment lorsqu’il a mené son action victorieuse vers Saint-Gervais.
J’ai également énormément apprécié la lutte qui s’est engagée tous les jours dans le final pour le gain des étapes.
J’ai été bien sûr aussi, comme beaucoup, frustré de ne pas voir davantage d’offensive dans la lutte pour le classement général. On mettra ça sur le compte d’un niveau resserré entre les uns et les autres et peut-être d’un manque de confiance en eux qui ne les a pas incités à prendre le risque nécessaire pour gagner davantage.

Vivement l’année prochaine ! On ne connait pas encore le parcours de l’édition 2017 mis on a hâte de le découvrir et surtout de revenir sur cet événement.

Merci à tous de votre fidélité, je vais maintenant prendre quelques jours de vacances avec les JO de Rio.

Arrivée au sommet au Bettex avec la première victoire française de Romain Bardet.
Une victoire qui s’est construite avec l’apparition de la pluie qui a rendu la course extrêmement périlleuse. On a vu un peloton étiré avec une course rapide et Romain Bardet a mis à profit ses qualités de descendeur vers Domancy.
A une quinzaine de kilomètres de l’arrivée, il met la pression sur ses adversaires en attaquant avec son ami et coéquipier Mikael Cherel.
Mollema chute, Froome chute un peu plus loin, les autres sont relayés dans un peloton à 1’10 de Bardet au pied de l’ultime ascension. Finalement il résiste. Avec 23′ d’avance il remporte cette étape et prend la deuxième place du général.

Le maillot jaune :
Christopher Froome est tombé dans la descente de Domancy.
Blessé, on l’a vu ensuite en difficulté. Il a été obligé de changer de vélo et de prendre celui d’un coéquipier. Il avait un coup de pédale beaucoup moins aérien que dans d’autres circonstances. Il a passé la ligne le visage marqué par l’effort et surtout meurtri. On se demande comment il pourra continuer à tenir son rang avec la même efficacité que ces jours précédents.

Les autres maillots :

Maillot à pois du meilleur grimpeur :
Il est définitivement acquis pour Rafal Majka qui s’est glissé dans l’échappée et qui a pris des points dans cette étape.

Maillot blanc du meilleur jeune :
Adam Yates a perdu quelques longueurs mais il conserve encore un avantage important sur Louis Meintjes.

Le meilleur combatif :
C’est Rui Costa qui s’est glissé dans l’échappée et qui a fait le forcing dans le final mais qui n’a pas pu résister au retour de Romain Bardet qui l’a ensuite décramponné.

Et du côté des français ?
Enfin une première victoire d’étape pour les français !
Dommage pour Pierre Rolland qui a lourdement chuté dans la descente du Col des Saisies. Il perd une belle opportunité de disputer cette victoire d’étape puisqu’il était devant avec Rui Costa.
