XXXII Garden Hotels-Luxcom Mallorca Cycling Challenge – Trofeo Calvia

The Trofeu Calvià opens the XXXII Garden Hotels-Luxcom Mallorca Cycling Challenge tomorrow, Wednesday, January 25, with a 150.1-kilometre leg-breaking route starting and finishing on Avenida Cas Saboners in Palmanova. The day will begin at 12:05 p.m. and arrival is scheduled around 4:00 p.m. On the route, cyclists must pass Coll des Tords (3rd), Coll den Claret (2nd), Coll de Sóller (2nd), Coll den Bleda (3rd) and Coll de sa Gramola (2nd), at 25 kilometers from the finish line.

This edition will take place between Wednesday the 25th and Sunday the 29th, with the final participation of twenty-one teams, after the last-minute withdrawal of the Kiwi Atlántico Cabo de Peñas, due to license problems with the UCI, and the presence of one of the Outstanding riders on the international cycling scene such as the double French world champion Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal-Quick Step), Guillaume Martin, the Herrada brothers (Cofidis), Juan Sebastián Molano, Tim Wellens (UAE), Emmanuel Buchmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) , Biniam Girmay (Intermarché Circus Wanty).

One of the main novelties for this edition is that live television returns. From Wednesday to Saturday, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday, from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m., through Teledeporte and Eurosport, adding the GCN platform and the Spanish International Television Channel, more than seven hours that will Mallorca in the showcase of millions of viewers from all over the planet, with a wide technical and human deployment.

The Portuguese cyclist Rui Costa (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty) has won the Trofeu Calvià, the first of the races of the XXXII 32nd Garden Hotels-Luxcom Cycling Challenge in Mallorca, which has been held with start and finish in Palmanova , over a 150.1 km route, under intermittent rain and a leg-breaking route. Rui Costa prevailed ahead of Belgian Louis Vervaeke (Soudal-Quick Step) and Irish Ben Healy (EF-EasyPost), who completed the podium.
The winner of this day came out of the trio of cyclists who reached the finish line before the push of a chasing group that stayed a few meters from being able to compete for the Trophy, among which was the two-time world champion Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal-Quick Step) .

The Challenge Mallorca will continue tomorrow with the dispute of the Trofeu Ses Salines-Alcúdia, of 158.6 kilometres, starting at Ses Salines and arriving at Port d’Alcúdia.

FanClub Christian Knees bei der Tour de France

Am Samstag startete der FanClub Christian Knees aus Rheinbach, unter Führung von Günter Frank dem Vorsitzenden des FanClubs, zu seiner diesjährigen Fantour zur Tour de France in die Vogesen. Von Rheinbach aus ging es direkt an die Strecke der 8. Etappe nach La Bresse. An einem Berg der 2. Kate-gorie hatten sich die Fans gute Plätze gesichert. Hier konnten sie dann den Fahrern zujubeln die an diesem Tag eine schwere Bergetappe bei viel Regen zu be-wältigen hatten. Am Sonntag ging es dann nach Turckheim, einem idyllischen Städtchen in der Nähe von Colmar. Nach dem Col du Wettstein, einem Berg der 3. Kategorie, ging es für die Fahrer in eine ca. 20 km lange und ra-santen Abfahrt nach Turckheim.
