Former Tour de France yellow jersey and stage winner to appear with African team
Linus Gerdemann has been named to the MTN-Qhubeka squad at the Tour d’Azerbaidjan (May 7-11 / UCI 2.1). The German rider wore the leader’s yellow jersey at the Tour de France in 2007 after winning the seventh stage. He is a last-minute nomination for the African-registered team.
Gerdemann, 31, is in his first year with the team, but his 10th year as a pro. He has ridden for CSC, T-Mobile, Milram, and Leopard. Gerdemann did not ride in 2013, but has re-joined the peloton this year with MTN-Qhubeka, where he re-joined his countryman and Milan-Sanremo winner, Gerald Ciolek.
Amongst his palmares, Gerdemann can also look to stage wins at Tirreno-Adriatico and the Tour de Suisse, as well as the overall titles in the Tour de l’Ain, Deutschland Tour, Bayern Rundfahrt and Tour de Luxembourg.
