Team return from altitude to race Ordizia Classic
The Caja Rural Seguros RGA team will return to competition on Tuesday (25/7/17) at the Ordizia Classic (1.1) in the Basque Country, Spain after a month of rest and training.
The 165km of hilly parcours will suit the characteristics of the likes of Aussie neo-pro Nick Schultz and local rider Alex Aranburu.
The team will be hoping to build on the double top-10 result achieved here last year, though will face strong opposition from World Tour outfits such as Movistar and Orica-Scott.
During the month of July period riders have been training at altitude in Andorra, Sierra Nevada and Navacerrada to prepare for some of the important objectives to come in the second part of the season such as the Vuelta España, Tour of Utah and the Colorado Classic.
Eugenio Goikoetxea (Director Sportif) : “We are excited and ready for the second part of the season but we know with the quality of the races on our calendar that we will have to perform at 100%. The whole team has used July to take a small break and then to build up again for competition with training at altitude in Andorra, Sierra Nevada and Navacerrada. The riders have come away in good form and the expectations will be the same as always, to be competitive and to add to our victory list this year. The Ordizia Classic is a race we usually go well in. Of course it will be difficult with the very high level of riders and teams there but we will still have ambitions to do a good race. We are bringing a young team with some local riders from the region who will be motivated to do well. I am expecting good things from them.”
