After postponing the event due to the COVID pandemic, the OC unveiled the new dates of the UEC Road European Championships in Trento (Northern Italy). The logo and schedules have been updated, no changes in the race course.
Trentino is ready to restart with the usual motivation and enthusiasm. After postponing the appointment with top-class cycling due to the health emergency and the suspension of sports events in Trentino, the UEC Road European Championships OC unveiled the new dates of the event for 2021. The event will be held in Trento (Northern Italy) from September 8th to 12th, 2021. The 2020 edition, initially assigned to Italy, will take place in Plouay (France), from August 24th to 28th.
For the President of the Province of Trento, the European Championships stands out among the main fixtures of the 2021 season loaded with big hopes. Trento and Trentino aim to restart in the name of major events: for the first time, this territory will crown the new European Champions with an atmosphere worthy of such a big occasion.
The Province of Trento’s Sports Assessor underlined the importance of having an official date to look to the future with confidence. The goal for everybody is to come out of this emergency quickly, and restore the ideal atmosphere to create a top-level event.
The organizing committee, headed by the Trento Monte Bondone Valle dei Laghi Tourist Board in collaboration with the Province of Trento and Trentino Marketing, unveiled the new official logo and confirmed the schedule of the event. Thirteen titles (six for men, six for women, and Team Relay) will be awarded in 5 days of racing, with the Men’s Elite Road Race set to close the program on Sunday, September 12th, 2021.
„We get back on track after the void caused by the emergency – Trentino Marketing’s CEO Maurizio Rossini said – with the hope of holding this big event in a progressively normalizing situation. The decision to postpone the event turned out to be the right one, given the challenges at this phase of the restart for the international activity. Trento will wait one year longer with the perspective of celebrating the event in style“.
The 2021 UEC Road European Championships routes remain unchanged. The OC confirmed a course suited to classy and punchy fast finishers, rather than pure sprinters: those who hope to secure the European crown will need to hold their own on every terrain. All races‘ start and finish will take place in Piazza Duomo, except for the time trials, starting from the MUSE – Sciences Museum in Trento, with the finish line located in Piazza delle Donne Lavoratrici.
As underlined by the Mayor of Trento: “Hosting the start and the finish of the European races is a dream coming true. We will work to guarantee the best in terms of organization and welcoming. We want riders, staff and supporters to be able to enjoy of our landscapes and Trento’s millenial history, culture and arts, in addition to the beautiful routes characterizing our event“.
In the 2021 calendar, the European Championships in Trentino will slot between the Olympic race in Tokyo (Japan) and the World Championships in Leuven (Belgium), in a month loaded with great fixtures. „Thanks to the proactive collaboration with the UEC, we have identified an open date in the international calendar which was ideal for the city. Trento will give its best, confirming its sports spirit and offering its warmest welcome and hospitality“, said Trento Monte Bondone Valle dei Laghi Tourist Board’s Director Elda Verones.
The European Championships promise to have a significant media impact. Eurovision will cover the entire event live on TV, airing the first three days in streaming and the last two on TV, spreading Trento’s images all over 60 European Countries.
