Tour of the Alps‘ hotspots to increase race safety
The stunning Euroregional stage race (April 19-23, 2021) chose to oversee the trickiest sections of the route with additional signage and the motorbike escorts’ stakeouts.
Tour of the Alps‘ roads will be even more protected during the 44th edition to be held from April 19th to 23rd, 2021, in Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino. Indeed, the GS Alto Garda organizers decided to reinforce the security protocol of the next edition, entrusting the technical area to identify the trickiest stretches of the five stages.
The Tour of the Alps’ brand-new ‚Hotspots‘ are not to be considered high-risk points, rather challenging sections along the route, such as a technical descent, a hard bend or a barely visible traffic island. These sections may prove to be pretty demanding, notably during a tense and high-level competition like the Euroregional UCI ProSeries stage race.
The ‚Hotspot‘ icon to be integrated into the signage will highlight three or four selected points of each stage. Motorbike escorts in service will also secure these sections by lurking to call the riders’ attention.
„We have taken note of the concerns the riders expressed at the end of last season – GS Alto Garda President Giacomo Santini explained – as their broadly urged to increase the measures of safety in the races and we did it. Thanks to the professionalism and commitment of our technical staff, we decided to strengthen the measures to protect athletes‘ safety. We care that our event – known for being a spectacular and highly competitive one – can take place in a positive mood“.
The ‚Hotspots‘ of the 2021 Tour of the Alps will be appropriately marked both in the roadbook and technical guide, with photos and accurate descriptions about the points. The technical guide, a further novelty of the Tour of the Alps 2021, will be made available in due time, 45 days ahead of the start, to the teams and everyone involved in the race.
