LA VUELTA 20: JOINT UNIPUBLIC-UCI STATEMENT CONCERNING THE TESTING CAMPAIGN CARRIED OUT ON OCTOBER 18TH 2020

In line with the health protocol of La Vuelta, established as part of the the “Rules to be followed for the resumption of the road cycling season in the context of the coronavirus pandemic”, drawn up by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and, in compliance with the measures of the Spanish Health Ministry, all teams (riders and staff) were tested yesterday (October 18th, 2020). The event starts on October 20th.

Besides, all those with accreditations were due to show a negative PCR test conducted within the 5 days preceding the official start of the race in Irun at the time of collecting their badge. As of now, 500 PCR tests have been conducted, with more tests due to be performed today, specially for those riders and team staff joining the level 1 of La Vuelta 20’s race bubble after taking part in the Tour de Flanders. The objective of this testing is to guarantee the health of the race for the riders and accredited personnel.

A total of 498 tests were carried out:

• No rider has tested positive for COVID-19.
• Two team staff members, one from Bahrain-McLaren and the other from Team Sunweb, tested positive for Covid-19; they were referred to their respective team doctors who organized isolation measures and took necessary action, in compliance with the World Health Organization (WHO) rules, concerning contact cases.

POSTPONEMENT OF THE 2020 PARIS-ROUBAIX, LIÈGE-BASTOGNE-LIÈGE, LA FLÈCHE WALLONNE and Tour de YORKSHIRE

As part of the fight against the spread of Coronavirus (COVID19), Amaury Sport Organisation, with the agreement of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), has decided to not organise Paris-Roubaix (12th April), the Flèche Wallonne and the Flèche Wallonne Women (22nd April) and Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Liège-Bastogne-Liège Women (26th April) races on their scheduled dates.

In close collaboration with the UCI and with the assistance of the other parties concerned, the organisers have already begun working to try to organise new dates for these monuments, races to which teams, riders and spectators are deeply attached.

The cyclosportives Paris-Roubaix Challenge and Liège-Bastogne-Liège Challenge will also be postponed.

POSTPONEMENT OF 2020 TOUR DE YORKSHIRE AND ASDA TOUR DE YORKSHIRE WOMEN’S RACE

As part of the fight against the spread of Coronavirus (COVID19), Welcome to Yorkshire and Amaury Sport Organisation, co-organizers of the Tour de Yorkshire and of the Asda Tour de Yorkshire Women’s race, have decided to postpone the upcoming sixth edition of the annual cycle race scheduled to take placed between 30th April and 3rd May 2020.
Welcome to Yorkshire, ASO and British Cycling are working with the UCI to try to find alternative dates in the international cycling calendar for the race to take place. In alignment with this decision will be to postpone the Sportive (Tour de Yorkshire Ride) as well – the ride for 4,500 people takes part on the same roads and finish line as the Pros.
