Die Top-3 der Tageswertung waren auf der 7. Etappe identisch. Am Schlussberg knallte Pogacar 12 Kilometer vorm Ziel allen davon. Der Abstand zu Vingegaard war mit am Ende 14 Sekunden deutlich geringer als am Vortag, der Lipowitz beinahe identisch und der zu den nachfolgenden Fahrern jedoch noch größer. Lipowitz hatte erst noch versucht, an Vingegaard dranzubleiben, erreichte dann aber 1:21 Minuten hinter dem außerirdischen Weltmeister das Ziel. Auf den 4. Platz kam mit 2:26 Minuten Rückstand Tobias Johannessen (Uno-X), der kurz vorm Ziel noch Evenepoel abstellte. Dieser erreichte ernüchternde 2:39 hinter Pogacar das Ziel, was aber immer noch für den 5. Platz reichte – mit mehr als einer weiteren Minute vor Tulett (Ineos) und Mas (Movistar).

Auf der abschließenden 8. Etappe rettete sich Lenny Martinez (Bahrain) aus der Spitzengruppe des Tages als einziger Fahrer 34 Sekunden vor Vingegaard und Pogacar ins Ziel. Die beiden wurden zuvor im letzten Anstieg von Evenepoel attackiert, der sich aber den Konter von Vingegaard fing. Jorgenson und Evenepoel erreichten 6 Sekunden hinter Vingegaard und Pogacar das Ziel. Lipowitz hing am Ende 7 Sekunden zurück, was aber dicke fürs Podest im Endklassement ausreichte. Bei Lipowitz festigte Johannessen seinen 5. Platz hinter Evenepoel und vor Jorgenson und Enric Mas (Movistar). Dies war auch Johannessens Team zu verdanken, weil es wegen der Anwesenheit von Mas in der Spitzengruppe fast den gesamten Tag die Nachführarbeit verrichtete. Mas konnte der Attacke von Martinez nicht folgen, belegte Platz 5 in der Tageswertung und machten noch 3 Plätze in der Gesamtwertung gut.

Florian Lipowitz wird Dritter des Critérium du Dauphiné
Mit einem starken dritten Gesamtrang und dem Gewinn des Weißen Trikots beendet Florian Lipowitz das Critérium du Dauphiné – und bestätigt damit seine kontinuierliche Entwicklung in der laufenden Saison.
Der Rennverlauf folgte einem klaren Plan: Ohne Zeitverluste durch die ersten beiden Tage, clever in der Ausreißergruppe der dritten Etappe und mit einem überzeugenden Zeitfahren zur Mitte der Rundfahrt konnte sich Lipowitz Schritt für Schritt nach vorn arbeiten. An den entscheidenden Tagen in den Alpen zeigte er erneut seine Stärken am Berg und behauptete sich unter den besten Rundfahrern.
Nach Platz 2 bei Paris–Nizza und Rang 4 im Baskenland brachte das Critérium du Dauphiné ein weiteres Top-Ergebnis für Florian Lipowitz bei einer einwöchigen WorldTour-Rundfahrt.

„Ich wusste, dass ich mit einer guten Form ins Rennen gehe – aber, dass es am Ende für das Podium reicht, hätte ich so nicht erwartet. Neben Fahrern wie Tadej und Jonas zu stehen, ist schon etwas Besonderes. Das Team hat mich die ganze Woche über großartig unterstützt – ich bin froh, dass ich das mit einem Ergebnis zurückgeben konnte.“

Ben Zwiehoff fährt bei der Tour de Romandie ins Bergtrikot
Als Ausreißer hat sich Ben Zwiehoff auf der 1. Etappe der Tour de Romandie das Bergtrikot gesichert. Für ihn ist es eine der seltenen Gelegenheiten, sich auf einem Podium präsentieren zu können.

Ben Zwiehoff ist einer der Vielfahrer im Team Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe. Bei der Tour de Romandie hat er für diese Saison bereits die Marke von 30 Renntagen geknackt. In Erinnerung bleiben wird ihm die 1. Etappe der sechstägigen Rundfahrt weitestgehend durch den französischsprachigen Teil der Schweiz aber aus anderen Gründen.
Der 31-Jährige Essener ist mit einem couragierten Auftritt in der Fluchtgruppe des Tages in das Bergtrikot der Romandie gefahren. Zwei der vier Bergpreise entschied er für sich, die daraus resultierenden 26 Zähler reichen für das himmelblaue Leibchen. Und damit seinen ersten Auftritt auf einem Podium seit etwa anderthalb Jahren.
Anders als geplant
„Für mich war es sehr schön, mal wieder so einen Moment zu haben“, freute sich Ben nach dem Rennen. „Das letzte Mal war ich bei der Türkei-Rundfahrt 2023 auf dem Podium“, erinnert sich der treue Helfer noch ganz genau. Die Rundfahrt, die aktuell parallel zur Tour de Romandie ausgetragen wird, war in jenem Jahr erst im Oktober Teil des Rennkalenders. Ben stand als Gesamtzweiter auf dem Podium. „Schön, dass es mal wieder geklappt hat.“

Florian Lipowitz klettert auf Gesamtrang drei, während der Paris-Nice-Kampf um das Klassement Fahrt aufnimmt
Florian Lipowitz hat seine starke Form bei Paris-Nice erneut unter Beweis gestellt und auf der 5. Etappe eine weitere beeindruckende Leistung abgeliefert. Der junge Deutsche belegte auf der Côte de Notre-Dame-de-Sciez den fünften Platz, nur sechs Sekunden hinter Etappensieger Lenny Martinez, und kletterte damit auf den dritten Gesamtrang.
Der 24-Jährige zeigte sich bereits beim gestrigen Gipfel-Finale der 4. Etappe in hervorragender Verfassung und bestätigte seine Klasse auch heute. Trotz der kurzen, explosiven Schlusssteigung (1,7 km bei 11 Prozent) hielt Lipowitz mit den besten Fahrern mit – eine Leistung, die ihn selbst überraschte.
„Ich hätte nicht erwartet, dass mir so ein Anstieg so gut liegt“, gab er im Ziel zu. „Normalerweise tue ich mich auf diesen kurzen, steilen Rampen etwas schwer, aber heute habe ich mich selbst überrascht. Ich konnte mit den stärksten Fahrern mithalten.“
Als Fünfter überquerte Lipowitz nur knapp hinter der Spitzengruppe die Ziellinie und untermauerte damit seine Ambitionen in der Gesamtwertung. Zusätzlich übernahm er das Weiße Trikot des besten Nachwuchsfahrers. Mit drei verbleibenden Etappen bis zum Finale in Nizza liegt er nun nur noch 36 Sekunden hinter dem Gesamtführenden Matteo Jorgenson.
Martinez delivers a mighty punch
Stage 5 of Paris-Nice 2025, filled with steep ascents all the way to a spectacular summit finish at La Côte-Saint-André, favoured a lightweight – Lenny Martinez (Bahrain Victorious), who surged to victory inside the last 100 metres after an animated finale. The young French climber got the better of Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike) and resisted his countryman Clément Champoussin (XDS-Astana) to take his most prestigious victory to date, on slopes that saw Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) struggle. The Dane suffered a crash early in the stage, rapidly resumed action but with an injured hand, and eventually finished 16th, with a gap of 26’’. The yellow and white jersey thus returns to Jorgenson… with Vingegaard in 2nd place of the overall standings (+22’’). Martinez moves up to 5th (+55’’).
The 143 riders who finished stage 4 at La Loge des Gardes are all present to resume racing in Saint-Just-en-Chevalet. Many of them eye the possibility of a winning breakaway, and a group of 11 riders try their luck from the first (uphill) kilometre… without success.
A blistering first 2 hours
Attack and counter-attack movements follow one after the other and meet the same fate, with riders already spotted in the previous days such as Joshua Tarling, Ben Swift (Ineos Grenadiers), Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X), as well as new attackers like Michael Matthews (Jayco-AlUla) and Neilson Powless (EF Education-EasyPost).
After two hours of battle, Ben Swift (Ineos Grenadiers) and Thibaud Gruel (Groupama-FDJ) get the clear for the break of the day. They set off at km 73, press on as a duo and eventually benefit from the clemency of the peloton after more than 90 kilometres, covered at an average of 48.4 km/h.
Vingegaard hits the deck, Foss gets away
Their lead hits a maximum of 3’15’’ (km 114) before Julian Alaphilippe’s Tudor Pro Cycling react. Meanwhile, Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) hits the deck on the climb of Côte de Trèves. The Danish leader of the race rapidly gets back up and returns to the bunch.
The pace and the tension increase as the riders face the Côte du Château Jaune and the Côte de Sibuze, the first of five “walls” in the last 50 kilometres. Tobias Foss (Ineos Grenadiers) uses these launchpads to join the lead duo and build a margin of 55’’ as he goes solo on the Côte de Chavagneux, with 30 kilometres to go.
Vingegaard struggles, Martinez flies
Trailing by 1’06’’ on GC, Foss takes the lead of the virtual standings as he pushes his advantage to 1’10’’ into the last 20 kilometres. But the peloton set a brutal pace on the penultimate climb of the day, Côte d’Arzay (16.5 km to go). The Norwegian attacker is eventually caught 4 km away from the line.
As Vingegaard struggles on the steeper slopes of the final climb, Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike) sets his own pace at the front and even opens a small gap with 300 metres to go. But Harold Tejada (XDS-Astana) bridges the gap with his teammate Clément Champoussin and Lenny Martinez (Bahrain Victorious)… The latter dances on his pedals in the last 100 metres to claim victory.

Soupe brings more French delights
Geoffrey Soupe (Total Energies) couldn’t believe it himself, but the Frenchman was the fastest in Oliva, where he won stage 7 of La Vuelta 23 ahead of Orluis Aular (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Edward Theuns (Lidl-Trek). At 35 years od, he takes his fifth professional win, by far the most prestigious! Making history as the youngest rider to ever lead a Grand Tour, Lenny Martinez (Groupama-FDJ) retained La Roja and will defend it on Saturday on the infamous slopes up Xorret de Cati.
As La Vuelta 23 returns to the valley after an exhilarating finish at the Observatorio Astrofisico de Javalambre, two riders rapidly set off to make the break of the day: José Herrada (Cofidis), participating in his ninth and last La Vuelta, and Ander Okamika (Burgos-BH), who already escaped on day 4.
Alpecin-Deceuninck control, Thomas goes down
Their lead is up to 2’35’’ at km 12 but Alpecin-Deceuninck already control the gap as they want to set a third winning sprint for Kaden Groves, already a winner in Tarragona (stage 4) and Burriana (stage 5). The gap stabilises at around 2 minutes.
Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) crashes 60 kilometres into the stage. The Welsh star appears to be in pain but he resumes racing.
Okamika pushes on
Okamika punctures with 110 kilometres to go. His breakaway companion Herrada waits for him and the peloton move closer: 1’35’’ into the last 100 kilometres.
The gap drops down under 20 seconds as they ride through Valencia. Herrada is caught with 67km to go but Okamika keeps on pushing. His lead gets back up to 1’15’’, before he gets caught with 41km to go.
Vingegaard and Soupe sprint
Groves dominates the intermediate sprint (34km to go) to increase his lead in the points standings. Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) seizes the opportunity to take 2 bonus seconds.
It’s a tortuous finale towards Oliva. Geoffrey Soupe (Total Energies) navigates the tricky last kilometre to power to victory ahead of Orluis Aular (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Edward Theuns (Lidl-Trek).

Kuss and Martinez – 2 stars in Javalambre
An outstanding stage 6 of La Vuelta delivered historic results at the Observatorio Astrofisico de Javalambre. The American climber Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma), participating in his third Grand Tour of the year, was the strongest from an impressive breakaway to take victory ahead of Lenny Martinez (Groupama-FDJ). The French wonderkid becomes the overall leader at 20 years old! Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) ganged up against Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) to gain 30 seconds on the Belgian star. La Vuelta 23 started less than a week ago and the GC battle is already in full swing!
After two sprints dominated by Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck), La Vuelta 23 heads back to the mountain with a summit finish at the Observatorio Astrofisico de Javalambre, atop the cat-1 ascent of the Pico del Buitre (10.9km at 8%). With a prestigious stage win to claim, and potentially La Roja on the line, attackers are very much inspired.
An impressive battle towards Javalambre
It takes 70 kilometres of extremely hard battle for a group of 42 attackers to eventually make the break, including 11 riders from the GC top 25: Lenny Martinez (Groupama-FDJ), Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates), Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma), Steff Cras (Total Energies), Wout Poels (Bahrain Victorious), Jefferson Cepeda (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), David De La Cruz (Astana Qazaqstan), Rémy Rochas (Cofidis), Juanpe Lopez (Lidl-Trek), Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious), Hugh Carthy (EF Education-EasyPost) and Attila Valter (Jumbo-Visma). Andreas Kron (Lotto Dstny), already a stage winner in Barcelona, is also up there.
Soudal Quick-Step, Ineos Grenadiers and Movistar work together to control the break. The gap goes as high as 7 minutes. It quickly drops down towards the main ascent of the day… But at the bottom of the climb to the Observatorio Astrofisico de Javalambre, an already seriously reduced peloton still trails by 3’50’’.
Kuss, Martinez, Roglic… What a showdown!
Michael Storer (Groupama-FDJ) sets the pace at the front for Martinez. Einer Rubio (Movistar) attacks with 4 kilometres to go. Romain Bardet (DSM-Firmenich) and Lenny Martinez (Groupama-FDJ) are the quickest to react but Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) gets back to them and goes solo inside the last 3 kilometres. At the summit, he wins 26’’ ahead of Martinez… who takes La Roja 6’’ ahead of the American climber!
In the GC group, Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) attacks with 4km to go as well. Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) can’t react while Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) his Slovenian teammate at the front. The two of them collaborate to gain 7’’ on Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates), 14’’ on Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) and Cian Uijtdebroeks (Bora-Hansgrohe), 24’’ on Enric Mas (Movistar) and 32’’ on Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step).
