Nibali wins Il Lombardia solo in Como, repeating his victory of two years ago and taking his 50th win as a pro. Alaphilippe took second place and Moscon third to complete the podium on the lake’s shore.

Vincenzo Nibali won Il Lombardia for the second time on the same finale as two years ago, using the same tactic throughout the downhill to drop his rival, Frenchman Thibaut Pinot, with 12km to go. Another Frenchman, Julian Alaphilippe, jumped to claim second place in Como while Italy’s Gianni Moscon rounded out the podium. This was Nibali’s 50th victory as a professional rider.

A cast of stars for the Milano-Torino

The world’s oldest Classics race, with its first edition in 1876, will feature many of the world’s best pro riders. Challenging last year’s winner Miguel Angel Lopez will be many top names including Dumoulin, Barguil, Quintana, Aru, Uran, Pinot, Chaves, Zakarin Landa, Kwiatkowski, Kruijswijk, Roglic, Dan Martin and Alaphilippe.


Milan, 27 September 2017 – Many of the top names in professional cycling will be at the start of the 98th edition of Milano-Torino – the oldest Classic bicycle race, having been first run in 1876. Organised by RCS Sport/La Gazzetta dello Sport, its last edition was won by Miguel Angel Lopez, who will be challenged by, among others, his teammate Fabio Aru (Astana Pro Team), Giro d’Italia winner Tom Dumoulin and Tour de France mountains classification winner Warren Barguil (Team Sunweb), Giro runner-up Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team), Tour de France runner-up Rigoberto Uran (Cannondale Drapac Professional Cycling Team), Milano-Sanremo winner Michal Kwiatkowski and his teammate Mikel Landa (Team Sky) and others including Esteban Chaves and Adam Yates (Orica – Scott), Steven Kruijswijk and Primoz Roglic (Team Lotto NL – Jumbo), Daniel Martin and Julian Alaphilippe (Quick – Step Floors), Ilnur Zakarin (Team Katusha Alpecin) and Thibaut Pinot (FDJ).

Yas Marina Circuit, 26 February 2017 – Caleb Ewen avenged the embarrassment of his stage two defeat at Al Marina by cruising to victory on the Yas Marina circuit on the final day of the Abu Dhabi Tour – and this time delaying his celebration until after the finish-line. Ridden under floodlights and heavy rain for much of its 143 km, stage four saw Ewan definitively announce his arrival among the fastest sprinters in pro cycling and Rui Alberto Faria da Costa seal overall victory for the “home” team, UAE Abu Dhabi. Mark Cavendish (Team Dimension Data) successfully defended his lead in the Green Jersey competition (Points Classification) sponsored by Nation Towers, Patrick Konrad (Bora – Hansgrohe) grabbed the Black Jersey sponsored by Etihad Airways (Intermediate Sprint Jersey Classification) thanks to his audacious breakaway, Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) kept his White Jersey sponsored by Abu Dhabi Sports Channel (Best Young Rider) and UAE Abu Dhabi took the Team Classification.

Yas Marina Circuit, 26 February 2017 – The Portuguese rider Rui Alberto Faria da Costa (UAE Abu Dhabi) has won the 2017 Abu Dhabi Tour, the unique UCI WorldTour race in the Middle East. Second in the General Classification is Ilnur Zakarin (Team Katusha Alpecin) with Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) in third place.

Final Stage 4 – the Yas Island Stage (143km) – has been won in a bunch sprint by the Australian rider Caleb Ewan (Orica – Scott).

Jebel Hafeet, 25. Februar 2017 – Der portugiesische Fahrer Rui Alberto Faria da Costa (UAE Abu Dhabi) gewann die Etappe 3 der Abu Dhabi Tour 2017, die 186 km lange Etappe des Rennens, von Al Ain bis hin zu Jebel Hafeet hielt er die Führung der allgemeinen Klassifikation. Auf dem Podium wurde er mit dem Roten Trikot des Rennführers belohnt, gesponsert von Al Maryah Island.

Pasadena, Kalifornien – BMC Racing Team Fahrer Daniel Oss sicherte sich bei der zehnten Auflage der Amgen Tour of California – die am Sonntag in Pasadena zu Ende ging – den ersten „King Of The Mountains“-Titel seiner Karriere.

Oss fuhr im gepunkteten Trikot des Bergführenden vor dem Publikum im Heimatstaat des BMC Racing Teams. Die Auszeichnung sicherte er sich, nachdem er in den Etappen zwei und drei Teil der Fluchgruppe war – die Zweite brachte ihm auch das „Cancer Most Courageous“-Trikot. Dann nutzte er die Führung der vorletzten Etappe des achttägigen Rennes und sammelte am Samstag Punkte auf den ersten zwei kategorisierten Anstiegen.

„Für mich war das ein wenig seltsam. Ich war immer in den Fluchtgruppen und habe dort die Punkte gesammelt“, so Oss. „Ich bin kein Kletterer und wiege 80 Kilo. Aber ich wollte dieses Trikot, nachdem ich in der ersten Fluchtgruppe Punkte bekam.“

Lüttich-Bastogne-Lüttich – Clément Chevrier : «Ich habe lieber Spass vorne als das Tempo hinten zu erleiden»

Eine Wiederholung für Alejandro Valverde (Movistar). Gewinner der Flèche Wallone vor vier Tagen hat sich der Spanier auch bei Lüttich-Bastogne-Lüttich, genau wie in Huy, vor Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx – Quick-Step) durchgesetzt. Letzter Akt der Frühlingsklassiker wurde die Älteste auf nassen Strassen und unter ein paar Tropfen ausgetragen. Mit Clément Chevrier in der Fluchtgruppe dabei, musste IAM Cycling einmal mehr mit dem Pech zurechtkommen. Das launische Wetter hat das Rennen auf den Strassen Belgiens noch schwerer gemacht und viele Stürze verursacht, darunter auch der von Mathias Frank, zum Glück ohne Folgen.
