After a spectacular opening ceremony yesterday evening, there were more fireworks at the finish of stage 1 of the Saudi Tour. As expected the pack made it bunched to Khaybar where Dylan Groenewegen (Team Jayco AlUla) flew to his first success this year in his opening race. The Dutchman who carries the colours of AlUla where this tour is staged comfortably beat Dusan Rajovic (Team Bahrain Victorious) and Max Walscheid (Cofidis) to the line and captures the first overall leader’s red jersey.
Before even the first pedal strokes, the third edition of the Saudi Tour started with a bang on the eve of the first stage. Fire dancers, over 600 drones in the sky, 16 teams gathered on five different stages, a mapping show on the magnificent Elephant Rock: the opening ceremony was bigger, greater and ever more spectacular than ever. Never had a team presentation been so impressive, and that was just an appetizer of what the race had to offer. After the opening festivities, it was time to battle it out for the first day of racing: a 180.5-km stage from the International Airport of Al Ula to the city of Khaybar. 111 riders took off shortly before noon and would have to deal with a fairly strong head wind as they headed to the south-east.

6 IN THE LEAD

After 3kms of racing six riders powered away: Hansen (UXT), Goikoetxea (EUS), Van Der Bekken (BWB), Iacchi (COR), Mohd Zariff (TSG) and Takeyama (JCL). Their advantage grew rapidly over a rather quiet pack: 2’50’’ after 10kms, 4’10’’ after 20. The first Intermediate average sprint (km 62) was claimed by Hansen while the gap reached a maximum 5’20’’. Under the influence of Team Jayco AlUla of Dylan Groenewegen, the pack moved closer to the escapees.

HANSEN, LAST SURVIVOR

Just before the second intermediate active sprint, Peio Goikoetxea pulled away in his quest for the most active rider’s blue jersey. Just after making it first to the line, the Spaniard was caught by his mail rival Hansen. At the bonus sprint (km 135), Hansen outsprinted his opponent to conquer the blue jersey. The Dane would eventually be the last man standing as Goikoetxea stopped his efforts due to cramps. With 25kms to go, Markus Hansen could still enjoy a 2’ lead but his solo adventure stopped just under 15kms from the finish.

BUNCHED SPRINT AS EXPECTED

Despite timid attempts and a crash, the pack remained bunched all the way to the final straight in Khaybar. Perfectly led out by his blue and white train including the precious likes of Luka Mezgec, Dylan Groenewegen comfortably conquered his first win of the season. The Dutchman who had already won two stages in Saudi Arabia last year beat Dusan Rajovic (TBV) and Max Walscheid (COF) to the line.

GREEN JERSEY FOR GROENEWEGEN

The five-time Tour de France stage winner naturally takes command of the general classification and will be wearing the leader’s Green Jersey for tomorrow’s second stage that heads to Shalal Sijlyat Rocks. He also leads the points classification while Marcus Hansen will be wearing the best young rider’s white jersey.

The Saudi Tour, launched in 2020 under the aegis of the Saudi Ministry of Sport and Saudi Cycling Federation, is returning in 2023 for its third edition. Sixteen teams in the international peloton will battle it out in five stages held from 30 January to 3 February. The 2023 route is a new opportunity for the field to discover AlUla, an oasis city in north-western Saudi Arabia, long a major stopover on the incense route and the road to Mecca. As well as bringing the unprecedented promise of a trip back in time, it will pull back the veil on a desert that only a few lucky tourists have got to explore so far. AlUla showcases the heritage of a 7,000-year-old civilisation, jaw-dropping rock formations and natural canyons, an array of adventure sports activities, and contemporary art facilities boasting unique architecture, such as Maraya, which will host the finish of the race. AlUla is also famous for its monumental tombs from the Nabataean period, carved into red sandstone cliffs: Hegra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site awaiting the peloton in the final stage.

As usual, the 2023 Saudi Tour, scheduled to take place from 30 January to 3 February, will be one of the first professional cycling races of the year and kick off the season for quite a few riders. The five stages on the programme trace a star-shaped route around AlUla, Saudi Arabia’s little-known archaeological gem.

The opening stage will take off from AlUla Airport and set course for the gorgeous Khaybar oasis.
AlUla International Airport, inaugurated in 2021, is is a beautifully designed piece of architecture that blends into the landscape and now offers direct international flights from Dubai, Cairo and Paris. The finish line of this stage will be set up in Khaybar, which is also known for its long history on the incense route. The city, planted in the heart of a volcanic field against the backdrop of majestic mountains, aspires to become a premium tourist destination.

Stage 2 will come to an end at the majestic Shalal Sijlyat Rocks after a 184 km journey.

Stage 3, which is 159.2 km long, will depart from Al Manshiyah Train Station, once an important stop on the legendary Hejaz Railway, a 1,300 km single-track line stretching from Damascus to Medina. Completed in 1907, the station saw thousands of travellers and pilgrims go through, some of whom stayed to create new local communities.

Stage 4 promises to be breathtaking, with a flying start from Maraya towards the incredible panoramas of Harrat Uwayrid. Maraya means ‚mirrors‘ in Arabic. The building serves as a multipurpose concert, entertainment and conference venue in AlUla. A brainchild of the Italian designer Florian Boje from Giò Forma, located in the Ashar Valley, Maraya has already hosted world-famous artists such as OneRepublic, John Legend, Alicia Keys and Andrea Bocelli, to name but a few, as well as local and regional artists. Maraya will also bring down the curtain on the race the next day.

The closing stage of this Saudi Tour will get under way from AlUla Old Town and give riders the opportunity to feast their eyes on the Nabataean site of Hegra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Condé Nast Traveler’s list of Seven Wonders of the World for 2023.

About AlUla:
Located 1,100 km from Riyadh, in North-West Saudi Arabia, AlUla is a place of extraordinary natural and human heritage. Sergio Higuita beendet die Vuelta a San Juan auf Rang drei der Gesamtwertung

Mit einer 112km langen Flachetappe auf einem Rundkurs in San Juan / Argentinien ging heute die Vuelta a San Juan zu Ende. Tausende Zuschauer verfolgten an den Straßen die finale Etappe der achttägigen Rundfahrt – ein Radsportfest!
Die Sprinterteams kontrollierten die Etappe und gewährten den Ausreißern nie mehr als eine Minute Vorsprung. In einem hektischen Finale holte sich S. Welsford den Sieg. Während Sam Bennett nicht ideal positioniert war, überquerte Danny van Poppel die Ziellinie als Fünfter. In der Gesamtwertung konnte Sergio Higuita seinen dritten Rang verteidigen und das erste Rundfahrts-Podium der Saison für BORA – hansgrohe einfahren.

„Diese Woche war super gut für das Team! Wir sind als Mannschaft stark gefahren, haben uns gegenseitig unterstützt und starke Ergebnisse erzielt. Ich bin zufrieden mit diesem Saisonstart, hier ein Podium mit nach Hause zu nehmen, war definitiv mein Ziel. Before a spectacular setting such as the Cathedral of Palma, Ethan Vernon (Soudal Quick-Step) has been awarded the last trophy of the XXXII Garden Hotels-Luxcom Challenge Ciclista Mallorca to the sprint, beating Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty) and Jarne van de Paar (Lotto-Dstny), second and third, respectively.

The British sprinter snapped the Intermarché-Circus-Wanty team’s winning streak in what could have been a perfect week of victories, having won three of the first four trophies contested. Vernon said at the end that “it seemed like a chase on the track, my first victory of the season and so early fills me with satisfaction.”

A four-man breakaway managed to establish a margin from the start, with Xabier Berasategi (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Ivan Cobo Cayon (Kern Pharma Team), Vincent Van Hemelen (Team Flanders-Baloise) and Marc Terrasa (Aluminios Cortizo), who arrived to reach an advantage of more than a minute and a half over the peloton, which at all times had them under control.
With 18 km to go, the compact group began the 3.5 km circuit in Palma and after four laps, they reached the sprint, with the victory of Vernon.

Am letzten Tag der Mallorca Challenge wartete auf das Feld heute eine flache Strecke Richtung Palma. Nachdem das Rennen über weite Teile von einer vier Mann Ausreißergruppe bestimmt wurde, sorgten die Sprinterteams am Ende rechtzeitig für einen Zusammenschluss. BORA – hansgrohe versuchte Matt Walls vor der entscheidenden Spitzkehre 500 m vor dem Ziel in Position zu bringen. Dies gelang leider nicht ganz nach Wunsch und der Olympiasieger erreichte das Ziel am Ende außerhalb der Top Ten.

Von der Ziellinie

“Wir hatten uns viel vorgenommen und waren am Ende auch sehr präsent. Leider hat die Abstimmung im Finale nicht ganz gepasst und Matt hat seine Teamkollegen verloren. In der letzten Kurve war er einfach nicht in Position und so hat es am Ende leider nicht für ein Topergebnis gereicht. Unsere Bilanz hier nach fünf Rennen fällt eher gemischt aus. Ich denke, die Jungs sind besser in Form als das die Ergebnisse zeigen. Aber zufrieden können wir mit dieser Woche dennoch nicht sein. Wir wissen aber nach dieser Standortbestimmung woran wir zu arbeiten haben.” – Torsten Schmidt, Sportlicher Leiter

Trotz aktiver Fahrweise erreicht BORA – hansgrohe keine Top-Platzierung beim Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race

BORA-hansgrohe beendete heute die Rennen in Australien mit dem Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. Nachdem ein Soloausreißer in der entscheidenden Rennphase wieder eingeholt war, setzte sich eine Gruppe um Jai Hindley und Marco Haller ab. Der Australier versuchte mehrmals im vorletzten Anstieg zu attackieren, wurde aber schnell wieder von der Verfolgergruppe eingefangen. Danach gelang es einem Duo sich abzusetzen, doch auch diese Bemühungen blieben erfolglos. Am Ende kam es zu einem Sprint aus einer rund 25 Fahrer großen Gruppe, in der sich auch Jai, Marco und Max befanden. Den Tagessieg holte sich M. Mayrhofer während Max zeitgleich mit dem Sieger auf dem 18. Platz als bester BORA-hansgrohe Fahrer das Ziel erreichte.

Reaktionen im Ziel

„Es war ein ziemlich verrückter Tag bis wir zu dem Rundkurs kamen. Wir haben vorher versucht, zu attackieren, aber das hat nicht geklappt, weil die Windverhältnisse dafür nicht ganz geeignet waren. Als wir dann den Rundkurs erreichten, wurde es ziemlich hart. Ich denke, wir haben als Team einen guten Job gemacht, immer in der vorderen Gruppe mit dabei zu sein. Wir haben auf Jordi gehofft, sollte es zu einem Massensprint kommen, oder auf Marco gesetzt, wenn es zu einem Sprint aus einer kleineren Gruppe kommen sollte. Am Ende konnten wir den Attacken an den Anstiegen folgen. Das Finale fand in einer Gruppe von etwa 25 Fahrern statt und ich war mit Max und Marco dabei. Aber letztlich konnten wir nicht in das Sprintgeschehen eingreifen.“ – Jai Hindley

„Wir wollten heute den formäßigen Aufwärtstrend, den wir bei der Tour Down Under gesehen haben, in Ergebnisse ummünzen. Wir sind ganz klar mit der Einstellung 100 Prozent auf Sieg zu fahren in das Rennen gegangen. Dafür haben wir auf ein möglichst schweres Rennen bereits vor der viermal zu fahrenden Schlussrunde gehofft. Die Wettervorhersage hatte wieder starken Wind vorhergesagt. Leider war es am Ende aber nicht so windig; nichtsdestotrotz haben die Jungs beim Seitenwind versucht, eine Vorselektion herbeizuführen. Das hat leider nicht geklappt. Jai und auch Marco haben sich dann auch auf den Schlussrunden aktiv gezeigt und immer wieder gefährliche Gruppen besetzt. Letztendlich ist es dann zu einem Sprint aus einer relativ großen Gruppe gekommen. Max hat versucht, Marco den Sprint zu lancieren, aber das hat leider nicht geklappt. Am Ende fahren wir ohne Ergebnis in Australien nach Hause und sind natürlich etwas enttäuscht.“ – Christian Pömer, Sportlicher Leiter

BORA – hansgrohe mit Problemen in extrem Wetterverhältnissen am vierten Tag der Mallorca Challenge

Wegen starkem Schneefall in den Bergen musste die Strecke heute modifiziert und verkürzt werden. In einer ersten Fluchtgruppe zeigten sich gleich drei BORA – hansgrohe Fahrer an der Spitze. Die Situation wurde allerdings vom Feld wieder neutralisiert und am letzten Anstieg des Tages zersplitterte das Peloton in lauter kleine Gruppen. Diesmal konnte nur Cian Uijtdebroeks den Anschluss an eine 12-Mann-Gruppe halten, hatte aber wie gestern in der Abfahrt Probleme und fiel zurück. Am Ende holte K. Goossens seinen zweiten Sieg in zwei Tagen. BORA – hansgrohe konnte leider keine Topplatzierung einfahren.

Von der Ziellinie

“Die Bedingungen waren heute wirklich extrem und hart am Limit. Das soll aber keine Ausrede sein. Wir waren zu Beginn eigentlich in einer sehr guten Position und hatten Ide, Cian und Ben in der großen Gruppe. Die lief aber nicht richtig und das Rennen kam wieder zusammen. Das zweite Mal am Berg ist dann alles auseinandergeflogen. Manche Jungs sind einfach erfroren und konnten ihre Leistung nicht mehr abrufen. Cian hat wieder tapfer gekämpft und ist auf den letzten 100 m noch zur ersten Gruppe hingekommen. In der Abfahrt musste er allerdings wieder abreißen lassen. Das ist natürlich schade, aber verständlich, wenn man seine Finger nicht mehr fühlt. Morgen haben wir frische Kräfte am Start und noch einmal eine Chance auf einen Sieg.” – Torsten Schmidt, Sportlicher Leiter

Second consecutive victory in the Garden Hotels-Luxcom Mallorca Cycling Challenge for the Intermarché–Wanty–Gobert rider, Kobe Goossens, after winning the Serra de Tramuntana Trophy, starting and finishing in Lloseta. The Belgian team thus adds its third victory in the four Trophies held so far, after the success of Rui Costa on the opening day.

The Belgian rider went on the attack three kilometers from the finish ahead of the small group of the best, including Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto DSTNY) and Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal Quick-Step), who completed the podium of the day, ahead of Lilian Calmejane, the winner’s teammate.

The Serra de Tramuntana Trophy initially had 155 kilometres, but the organisation, due to the red alert existing on the Island due to snow, has reduced it to 123. The first attacker of the day was the Dutch champion Pascal Eenkhoorn (Lotto DSTNY), who Matteo Trentin and Rémi Cavagna joined, among others. But the peloton reduced the leading group for the first ascent of Coll de Femenias. That’s where the race really exploded.

Different escapes where Julian Alaphilippe, Goossens, Calmejane, Carthy were always involved, in the slippery descent new attempts that do not bear fruit. Four kilometers from the finish line, Calmejane lit the fuse. The French Intermarché-Circus-Wanty runner made a small hole that held him for a long time, but he was eventually caught up. From that moment on, a strong attack from his teammate Kobe Goossens. The advantage was immediately great, managing to hold out until the finish line in a gruesome day marked again by cold and rain.

Deutschland Tour 2023 startet im Saarland

Am 23. August feiert die Deutschland Tour ihren großen Auftakt im Saarland. In St. Wendel erfolgt der Start zur diesjährigen Ausgabe von Deutschlands wichtigstem Radrennen. Die Kreisstadt wird Gastgeber des Prologs. Am 24. August führt die erste Etappe von St. Wendel komplett durch das Saarland bis nach Merzig.

Im August wird die saarländische Radsportbegeisterung die Deutschland Tour 2023 empfangen. Als Gastgeber vieler Wettbewerbe, bis hin zu Cross-Weltmeisterschaften und MTB-WorldCups, hat sich St. Wendel fest im Radsport etabliert. Dazu findet seit 35 Jahren mit der Trofeo eines der wichtigsten internationalen Nachwuchsrennen im Saarland statt. Für einige Deutschland Tour-Profis wird der August zu einer Rückkehr zu ihren sportlichen Wurzeln.

Prolog Deutschland Tour 2022

Nach der erfolgreichen Premiere des Prologs im vergangenen Jahr, beginnt auch die diesjährige Deutschland Tour mit einem kurzen Einzelzeitfahren. Ein technisch anspruchsvoller Rundkurs durch St. Wendel verlangt den 120 Profis gleich zum Auftakt alles ab. Das Sekundenspiel ist spannend für die Zuschauenden entlang der Strecke und prägt die sportliche Entscheidung um das Führungstrikot auf den folgenden Etappen.

St. Wendel wird auch Ausgangspunkt der ersten Etappe. Sie verläuft komplett durch das Saarland und führt die Profis durch den bergigen Norden des Bundeslandes. Die Strecke bietet sehenswerte Ausblicke, wie zum Beispiel auf die Saarschleife, und verläuft bis nach Merzig. Mit dem hügeligen Profil und einer anspruchsvollen Zielrunde erhält die Etappe ihren klassikertypischen Charakter.

Für die Deutschland Tour ist das Etappenziel in Merzig ein Comeback. Bereits 2018 war das Rennen hier zu Gast, damals setzte sich Matej Mohoric im Sprint einer Führungsgruppe knapp vor Nils Politt durch und legte den Grundstein für seinen späteren Gesamtsieg.

„Ich freue mich, dass die Deutschland Tour in diesem Jahr mehr Zeit im Saarland verbringt. Wir haben bei der Erstausgabe der neuen Deutschland Tour vor vier Jahren die große Begeisterung entlang der Strecke erlebt. Jetzt gestalten wir zwei ganze Tage, die die Fans freuen und die Profis fordern werden. Ich bin mir sicher: das Saarland wird die Deutschland Tour 2023 prägen“, sagt Matthias Pietsch, Geschäftsleiter bei der Gesellschaft zur Förderung des Radsports.

Die Deutschland Tour 2023 findet vom 23. bis zum 27. August an fünf Renntagen statt. In den kommenden Wochen werden die weiteren Etappenorte bekanntgegeben. Das Radrennen lockt jährlich mehr als 500.000 Besuchende an die Strecke und allein in Deutschland über 5 Millionen Zuschauende an die Bildschirme.

Zuschauen und Mitmachen ist auch in diesem Jahr das Motto von Deutschlands größtem Radsportfestival. Von der Expo Tour mit Bühnenprogramm, über entspanntes Alltagsradfahren auf gesperrten Straßen bis zur „kinder Joy of Moving mini tour“, Kinder und Jugendliche für das Radfahren begeistert, wartet ein volles Programm in St. Wendel und Merzig.

SAUDI TOUR: The new El Dorado

Colombia’s Santiago Buitrago who had his breakthrough at the Saudi Tour last year wants to avenge himself on GC.

Before winning the first two editions of the Saudi Tour, Phil Bauhaus (2020) and Maxim Van Gils (2022) did not yet have an overall stage race victory to their credit. AlUla Saudi Arabia is a new El Dorado for cycling, where dreams of greatness take shape.

The other sensation of the 2022 edition, the Colombian Santiago Buitrago, kept a feeling of unfinished business. Winner of the second stage in Abu Rakah, the final victory had eluded him on echelons. Since then, he raised his profile by winning stage 17 of the Giro d’Italia (12th on GC) then stage 1 of Vuelta a Burgos. He wants to take revenge on the Saudi Tour, so his team Bahrain Victorious has enrolled him again. He will be the hot favorite on the start line at AlUla International Airport on January 30.

The teams of the Arabic Gulf are particularly motivated by the idea of making a name for themselves in the region. Bahrain Victorious has also called up very fast men for the stages likely to arrive in a sprint: Jonathan Milan, Andrea Pasqualon, Dusan Rajovic and Heinrich Haussler. Similarly, UAE Team Emirates is aiming for bunch sprint finishes with Pascal Ackermann and the general classification with Davide Formolo, supported by new recruit Felix Grossschartner.

Two teams established for some time in professional cycling have recently concluded partnerships in Saudi Arabia: Movistar, with the national cycling federation, hence the designation of its versatile new rider, the Portuguese Ruben Guerreiro, as leader for this race, and Australia’s only WorldTour squad, now named Team Jayco-AlUla. The latter returns in AlUla with Dutch sprinter Dylan Groenewegen after he won two stages last year. “We’ve got a couple of options with some younger guys for the general classification but the big focus is to build the sprint train around Groenewegen”, Team Jayco-AlUla’s sport manager Matt White explained. “Every race is important but obviously when your team’s sponsor hosts the event as well, it adds some motivation. We’re going there to win stages and showcase our sponsors in a good way.”

The youngsters in question are European u23 road champion Felix Engelhardt and former mountain biker Alexandre Balmer. Other young guns to watch out for include u23 world time trial champion Soren Wærenskjold (Uno-X) while the sprinters’ category includes John Degenkolb (DSM), Cees Bol (Astana Qazaqstan), Simone Consonni (Cofidis), Erlend Blikra (Uno-X), Matteo Malucelli (Bingoal WB) and Algeria’s Youcef Reguigui (Terengganu Polygon) who finished 4th in the 2020 Saudi Tour.

As part of the Asia Tour, the event also aims to provide access to the top level to the best squads of the continent, namely Terengganu Polygon from Malaysia and Team Ukyo from Japan. This time around, the national team of Saudi Arabia will ride at home !

Vuelta a San Juan: Sam Bennett sprintet in Argentinien auf Platz zwei

Die sechste und vorletzte Etappe der Vuelta a San Juan mit Start und Ziel am Velódromo Vincente Chancay führte über 144km und zwei Bergwertungen der dritten Kategorie.
Nach einer hektischen Anfangsphase etablierte sich eine siebenköpfige Ausreißergruppe, die schließlich 20km vor dem Ziel von der Sprinterteams gestellt wurde. Mit einem starken Leadout positionierte BORA – hansgrohe Sam Bennett im finalen Massensprint. Bennett musste sich nur S. Welsford geschlagen geben und sicherte sich mit Platz zwei sein drittes Podium in dieser Woche. In der Gesamtwertung bleibt Sergio Higuita vor der morgigen letzten Etappe auf Platz drei.

Sergio Higuita starker Dritter auf der Königsetappe der Vuelta a San Juan in Argentinien

Nach einem Ruhetag gestern stand heute mit dem fünften Tagesabschnitt der Vuelta a San Juan die Königsetappe auf dem Programm. 174km mit Start in Chimbas und einer Bergankunft am Alto de Colorado auf 2624m Höhe.
Am 20km langen Schlussanstieg wurden zuerst die verbliebenen Ausreißer des Tages gestellt, ehe sich die Favoriten um den Tagessieg und die Gesamtwertung in Position brachten. Fünf Kilometer vor dem Ziel attackierten M. A. Lopez und Sergio Higuita – während Lopez als Solist die Etappe für sich entschied, konnte Higuita auf den letzten Kilometern nicht folgen, sicherte sich aber einen starken dritten Rang. In der Gesamtwertung liegt Sergio Higuita auf Platz drei, 44s hinter dem neuen Gesamtführenden M.A. Lopez.

Trofeo Andratx: Großartige Leistung von Cian Uijtdebroeks wird leider nicht belohnt

Widrigste Witterungsbedingungen und ein extrem schweres Streckenprofil – das heutige Trofeo Andratx – Mirador D’es Colomer verlangte dem Peloton alles ab. Auf dem dritten Teilstück der Challenge Mallorca über 161 Kilometer mussten die Fahrer unter anderem den 887 Meter hohen Puig Major bewältigen – den längsten Anstieg Mallorcas. Schon früh wurde das Rennen dabei von einer mehrköpfigen Ausreißergruppe geprägt, zu der auch BORA – hansgrohe Fahrer Cian Uijtdebroeks zählte. Rund 100 Kilometer vor dem Tagesziel konnten sich Uijtdebroeks und der Belgier Kobe Goossens (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty) von ihren Begleitern absetzen und fuhren gemeinsam über den Puig Major, auf dessen Passhöhe sogar Schneeregen einsetzte. In der anschließenden kalten und technisch sehr schweren Abfahrt verlor Uijtdebroeks allerdings den Anschluss an seinen Begleiter. Trotz einer auch im Anschluss großartigen Tagesleistung wurde er schließlich einen Kilometer vor dem Ziel von den Verfolgern eingeholt. Am Ende gewann Goossens vor dem Spanier Pelayo Sanchez (Burgos-BH) und dem Belgier Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto Dstny). Bester BORA – hansgrohe Fahrer wurde der Österreicher Patrick Konrad, 43 Sekunden hinter dem Sieger.

„Es war ein wirklich harter Tag. Ich habe von Anfang an versucht, vorne mitzufahren, und im Vall de Mossa habe ich angegriffen. Einige Kilometer später kamen fünf weitere Fahrer hinzu, und wir bildeten die Gruppe des Tages. In der Abfahrt vom Coll de Sóller attackierte Kobe Goossens aus der Spitzengruppe heraus, und ich war der einzige Fahrer, der ihm folgen konnte. Von da an waren wir alle am Anschlag. Leider wurde ich am Ende etwas müde und konnte die Lücke zu Goossens nicht mehr schließen. Ich bin noch mit voller Kraft ins Ziel gefahren, aber einen Kilometer vor der Ziellinie hat mich die Verfolgergruppe eingeholt.“ – Cian Uijtdebroeks

„Mit Temperaturen von vier Grad und strömendem Regen war das heute wirklich ein besonders hartes Rennen. Daher zuerst einmal Respekt an alle, die hier gefahren sind. Wir hätten uns natürlich ein besseres Ergebnis gewünscht, insbesondere, weil die Fahrer alle sehr tolle Leistungen gezeigt haben. Besonders erwähnenswert ist aber sicherlich Cians Performance – er hätte ein Spitzenresultat verdient gehabt. Auch wenn das Ergebnis nicht topp war, so können wir auf jeden Fall mit erhobenem Haupt in die nächsten Rennen gehen. Das Team ist wirklich sehr motiviert.“ – Torsten Schmidt, Sportlicher Leiter
