Er sieht sich in sehr guter Verfassung aber zugleich erwähnte er, dass ein vierter Erfolg bei der Tour die bisher größte sportliche Herausforderung seiner Karriere darstellt.

Montefalco, 16 May 2017 – The Dutch rider Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) won the 39.8km Individual Time Trial, Foligno to Montefalco tenth stage of the 100th Giro d’Italia, the Sagrantino Stage. Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) and Bob Jungels (Quick-Step Floors) finished second and third.
Tom Dumoulin is the new race General Classification leader, wearing the Maglia Rosa.
In einer Etappe mit mehreren Angriffen war der Spanier in Peschici erstmals an der Ziellinie. Visconti und Sanchez, auch im Ausbruch, sind Zweiter und Dritter, während Jungels das Maglia Rosa behält. Die morgige Etappe wird im TV Live ab 13.05.

Peschici, 13. Mai 2017 – Gorka Izaguirre erreicht seinen ersten Grand-Tour-Erfolg, folgend dem Pfad seines jüngeren Bruders Ion, der die Etappe 16 des Giro d’Italia in Falzes gewann. Er fuhr mit einem Kilometer Vorsprung zum Sieg, um nach Valerio Conti zu fahren, stürzte im Aufstieg nach Peschici mit Blick auf die Adriaküste. Trotz eines Crashs blieb Bob Jungels das Maglia Rosa vor dem zermürbenden Hügel des Blockhauses.

Wie Giovanni Visconti, der in Peschici den zweiten Platz belegte, wo er 2008 die Maglia Rosa erhielt, ist Bob Jungels nun insgesamt acht Tage in der Maglia Rosa. Unter den Anwärtern des diesjährigen Giro d’Italia hat nur Vincenzo Nibali mehr mit 21.

Alberobello, 12 May 2017 – Australia’s Caleb Ewan (Orica-Scott) claimed his first ever stage victory at the Giro d’Italia as he outsprinted Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step Floors) and Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) in a spectacular bunch gallop in Alberobello after Dmitriy Kozontchuk (Gazprom-Rusvelo) and Giuseppe Fonzi (Wilier Triestina) got reined in with 20km to go. Bob Jungels (Quick-Step Floors) retained the Maglia Rosa for the fourth day.
To celebrate stage 7 of the 100th Giro d’Italia, the town of Alberobello dedicated the area next to today’s finish line to the Maglia Rosa, Bob Jungels.

STATISTICS
First win at the Giro d’Italia for Caleb Ewan. It’s his second Grand Tour victory after stage 5 at the 2015 Vuelta a España.
This is the 30th stage victory for Australian riders at the Giro, 35 years after the first one, by Tasmania’s Michael Wilson in Cortona on 15 May 1982.
The age of the stage winners so far this year: 22 (Gaviria, Ewan), 25 (Polanc, Pöstlberger), 26 (Dillier), 34 (Greipel). Also in 2012, two riders won a stage before turning 23: Taylor Phinney, 21, and Andrea Guardini, 22.

Terme Luigiane, 11. Mai 2017 – Silvan Dillier (BMC Racing Team) gewann die 217km lange sechste Etappe des 100. Giro d’Italia Reggio Calabria zu Terme Luigiane. Jasper Stuyven (Trek – Segafredo) und Lukas Pöstlberger (Bora – Hansgrohe) belegten den zweiten und dritten Platz.
Bob Jungels (Quick-Step Floors) bleibt im Rennen als General Classification Führer, er trägt das Maglia Rosa.

Etna, 9 May 2017 – Two years after he won climbing the Abetone, Slovenia’s Jan Polanc claimed the first uphill finish of the 100th Giro d’Italia as he soloed to victory on Mount Etna, surviving from a long breakaway despite the strong wind blowing on Sicily’s famous volcano. Luxembourg’s Bob Jungels – who wore the Maglia Rosa for three days last year – moved into the lead ahead of British riders Geraint Thomas and Adam Yates.

For the seventh time in the history of the Giro d’Italia, there have been four different Maglia Rosa in the first four stages (in order: Lukas Pöstlberger, André Greipel, Fernando Gaviria and Bob Jungels). Only a week before the Giro d’Italia’s Big Start in Sardinia, here we present a second group of potential GC contenders vying for the final victory at the Giro 100.
Milan, 28 April 2017 – The first challenge against the clock will come after the second rest day with the Sagrantino Stage from Foligno to Montefalco (Stage 10), followed by the stage on the Appennines, number 11, from Firenze (Ponte Ema) to Bagno di Romagna where riders will face the Passo della Consuma, Passo della Calla, Passo del Carnaio and Monte Fumaiolo, all four being classified KOM climbs.
The finale of Stage 14, from Castellania to Oropa, is an 11km climb with an average 7% gradient, peaking at 13% a few kilometres from the finish line. The following day’s Stage 15, Valdengo to Bergamo, presents a very similar final section to the 2016 edition of the Classic Monument race Il Lombardia.
Today’s group of GC contenders to watch out for at the Giro d’Italia 100 are:
Thibaut Pinot (FRA – FDJ). The best young rider (and third overall) at the 2014 Tour de France, Pinot decided to prioritize the Giro d’Italia over his home race as he’s convinced the Italian style of racing suits him better. The tattoo on his right bicep (in Italian) says everything about his intention: ‘solo la vittoria è bella’ (‘only victory is beautiful’).
Thibaut Pinot said: “I decided to take part in the Giro100 even before the 99th edition started. For several years I’ve wanted to do it… it’s the right time now. The Giro d’Italia is probably the race that suits me better than any other with the kind of mountains I like and the bad weather there is sometimes in the Dolomites in May. I’m determined to race for GC. The Tour of the Alps has been reassuring in terms of the physical condition I’m in now. I believe I’m ready to fight for the final podium.”

THE RIDERS TO WATCH AT THE GIRO 100: MAGLIA ROSA DREAMING – PART 1
With little more than a week before the Giro d’Italia’s Big Start in Sardinia, let’s profile a first group of potential GC contenders for the final victory at the Giro 100 contested from 5 to 28 May
Milan, 27 April 2017 – In this unique and historic edition of the Giro d’Italia there are plenty of riders with GC ambitions, but only one of these men will be able to wear the final Maglia Rosa in Milan, lifting the Trofeo Senza Fine. Over the next three days we will share their profiles and hear their impressions before the start.
The first challenge for the GC contenders will arrive soon: stage 4, from Cefalù to Etna, which will end with a 20km climb featuring an average gradient of 6% that will start in Nicolosi and end at the Rifugio Sapienza, 1,892 metres above sea level on Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. The next climb finish will be on stage 9, Montenero di Bisaccia to Blockhaus; its final13km will feature long sections of 9% inclines with peaks at 14%.
The first few stages of the Giro 100 will not decide the final winner but will give a clear indication on the form of all the contenders before the Sagrantino Stage ITT and the great mountains waiting for the Corsa Rosa.
