Montalto di Castro, 10 March 2017 – The double World Champion Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) won stage 3 from Monterotondo Marittimo to Montalto di Castro (204km) in a bunch sprint finish, ahead of Elia Viviani (Team Sky) and Jurgen Roelandts (Lotto Soudal). Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing Team) is the new General Classification leader.

Februar 2017 – Die Liste der Mannschaften bei der nächsten Abu Dhabi Tour ist wirklich beeindruckend: 16 von 18 UCI WorldTeams nahmen die Einladung des Abu Dhabi Sports Council an, von Madinat Zayed am 23. Februar für die erste Etappe zu starten Die Wüste zum berühmten Wahrzeichen, Liwa Oase. Die weltbesten Rider sind bereit zum Rennen, darunter Nairo Quintana, Vincenzo Nibali, Fabio Aru, Steven Kruijswijk, Tejay van Garderen und Romain Bardet als General Classification (GC) -Kämpfer. Die Etappe 3 ist der Schlüssel für diese Fahrer mit dem legendären Jabel Hafeet-Aufstieg, der für das letzte Podium in den vorherigen Ausgaben der Abu Dhabi Tour entscheidend war. Viele der besten Sprinter der Welt konkurrieren auch mit Namen wie Mark Cavendish, Marcel Kittel, Elia Viviani, André Greipel und Caleb Ewan, die für Etappensiege kämpfen.

Dubai, 4 February 2017 – Marcel Kittel (Quick-Step Floors) won his second straight Dubai Tour in style as he claimed the conclusive stage in a bunch gallop ahead of Elia Viviani (Team Sky) and Riccardo Minali (Astana Pro Team) after the peloton caught breakaway riders Floris Gerts (BMC Racing Team), Dmitriy Gruzdev (Astana Pro Team), Ivan Garcia Cortina (Bahrain-Merida) and Matteo Bono (UAE Abu Dhabi). The German star added Stage 5 and the General Classification to reach the total of 75 pro career victories.

Die Dubai Tour erreichte ihren Abschluss heute mit einem Massensprint in der Innenstadt von Dubai. Marcel Kittel (Quickstep-Floors) gewann den Sieg vor Elia Viviani (Team Sky) und Riccardo Minali (Astana). Team Dimension Daten für Qhubeka’s Mark Cavendish auf Platz 4.

Nur eine kurze 124km lange Etappe in den Straßen von Dubai brachte die 4. Auflage der Dubai Tour zu Ende. Ein schneller Start verhinderte irgendwelche Ablenkungen von der Erlangung einer Lücke von irgendeiner Bedeutung, und so war ein letzter Königs-Sprint ausschlaggebend um die Etappe zu entscheiden.

Team Dimension Daten für Qhubeka hofften, die Tour auf eine hohe Note nach einer Reihe von Fehlschlägen in früheren Stadien der Veranstaltung beenden. Mit 11km noch zu fahren, zog unser afrikanischer Zug auf der linken Seite der Straße mit allen 8 Fahrern, um vom Kopf des Pelotons aus zu befehlen. Jay Thomson, Nic Dougall, Scott Thwaites, Ryan Gibbons und Bernhard Eisel hatten die Aufgabe, das Tempo von Reinardt Janse van Rensburg, Mark Renshaw und Mark Cavendish in einer guten Ausgangslage zu halten.

Dubai, 30. Januar 2017 – Fünf Vertreter des Pelotons zu Beginn der Dubai-Tour 2017 sprachen heute mit den Medien im offiziellen Dubai-Tour-Headquarter. Der hochkarätige Bundestrainer Marcel Kittel (Quick-Step Floors), der Dubai Tour-Gewinner Mark Cavendish (Team Dimension Data), Elia Viviani (Team Sky), John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo) und Yousif Mirza (Vereinigte Arabische Emirate Abu Dhabi) wurden von HE beigetreten Saeed Hareb, Generalsekretär im Sportzentrum von Dubai. Die offizielle Startliste ist ab sofort verfügbar.

Abu Dhabi, 19 October 2016 – The press conference was opened by the Official Abu Dhabi Tour Ambassador, Mark Cavendish. In attendance alongside the Manxman were Giro d’Italia winner Vincenzo Nibali (Italy), seven time overall Grand Tour winner Alberto Contador (Spain), the duo of puncheurs John Degenkolb (Germany) and Michael Matthews (Australia), sprinter André Greipel (Germany), Rio 2016 gold medalists Elia Viviani (Omnium) from Italy and Belgium’s Greg Van Avermaet (Individual Road Race), Costa Rican rider Andrey Amador and local hero Yousif Mirza, the highest profile rider in the UAE.

1) Mark Cavendish (British Isles – Team Dimension Data) Abu Dhabi Tour Official Ambassador
The world’s most successful sprinter ever and 2011 UCI Road World Champion Mark Cavendish, 31, added four Tour de France stage victories this year to his account to make it 30 up to date, only four down on all-tine record holder Eddy Merckx. A points classification winner in all three Grand Tours, he also wore the yellow jersey for the first time this year and claimed his first ever Olympic medal with the silver in the omnium track race, before finishing second at the UCI Road World Championships – just a bike’s length away from reclaiming his title.
Cavendish said: „I’m proud to be the ambassador of the Abu Dhabi Tour, and event that has incredible sponsors and a great future, being elevated to one of the pinnacle races in cycling already for next year. The caliber of riders here is similar to the Tour de France.“

2) Vincenzo Nibali (ITA – Astana Pro Team)
Vincenzo Nibali, 31, nicknamed “The Shark”, was already one of the six riders who won all three Grand Tours (France, Italy, Spain) in the history of cycling before he won the Giro d’Italia once again this year, as well as the Tour of Oman.
Nibali said: „Abu Dhabi is a fantastic location with a great hotel to host us. This is only my third race after my accident at the Olympics, following the Tre Valli Varesine and the Tour of Almaty. I’m looking to regain good race condition.“

Abu Dhabi, 19 October 2016 – The official start list of the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Tour is revealed. It includes 18 teams, 11 of which are from the WorldTour, with a total number of 107 riders.

Among the starters are the Official Abu Dhabi Tour Ambassador, the Manxman Mark Cavendish, the Giro d’Italia winner Vincenzo Nibali (Italy), the seven-time overall Grand Tour winner Alberto Contador (Spain), the duo of puncheurs John Degenkolb (Germany) and Michael Matthews (Australia), the sprinter André Greipel (Germany), two gold medalists from Rio 2016, the Italian Elia Viviani (Omnium) and the Belgian Greg Van Avermaet (Individual Road Race), the Costa Rican rider Andrey Amador and the local hero Yousif Mirza, the highest profile rider in the UAE.

Abu Dhabi, 17 October 2016 – Following the UCI Road World Championship brilliantly won by Peter Sagan in Doha so narrowly ahead of Abu Dhabi Tour Official Ambassador Mark Cavendish, a great week of cycling is expected in the United Arab Emirates with the second edition of the UCI Cycling Gala and the second Abu Dhabi Tour just around the corner.

A special event to celebrate the end of the UCI professional road cycling season and its stakeholders, the UCI Cycling Gala will take place in the evening of 18 October at St-Regis Abu Dhabi in the presence of Peter Sagan and other big names.

Alberto Contador, Vincenzo Nibali, Greg Van Avermaet, André Greipel, Elia Viviani, Cavendish, Andrey Amador, Michael Matthews, John Degenkolb and Yousif Mirza will attend the top riders press conference on 19 October. They’re part of the prestigious start list of the Abu Dhabi Tour featuring four stages from 20 to 23 October. 18 teams have signed up: 11 UCI WorldTeams (Astana Pro Cycling, BMC Racing Team, Lampre-Merida, Lotto-Soudal, Movistar Team, Orica-BikeExchange, Team Dimension Data, Team Giant – Alpecin, Team Sky and Trek – Segafredo), four UCI Professional Teams (CCC Sprandi Polkowice, Gazprom-RusVelo, One Pro Cycling and Willier Triestina – Southeast), three UCI Continental Teams (Nasr Dubai, Minsk Cycling Club and Team Wiggins).

The Abu Dhabi Tour features three stages likely to favour the sprinters and one uphill finish with a spectacular grand finale on the Yas Marina motor racing circuit on Sunday night. The event will be part of the UCI WorldTour from 2017 onwards.

Giro d’Italia – Jérôme Pineau: «Auch harmlose Stürze sind in Etappenrennen eine Behinderung»

Jeder Tag ist für IAM Cycling anders. Nach seinem schönen sechsten Platz im Mannschaftszeitfahren gestern, hoffte das Schweizer Profiteam dynamisch für seinen Sprinter Matteo Pelucchi bei der Ankunft der zweiten Etappe arbeiten zu können. Leider stürzte der Italiener, in einem Massensturz rund 20km vor dem Ziel gemeinsam mit fast allen seinen Teamkollegen und hat es nicht mehr geschafft, mit dem Feld aufzuschliessen. Somit konnte sich sein Freund und Landsmann Elia Viviani (Sky) im Finale durchsetzen. Das Rosa Trikot wiederum übernahm Michael Matthews (Orica GreenEdge) dank Bonifikationen.

However, the traditional stage finish at Izmir is complicated this year by the insertion of a Category One climb which peaks just 26 km from the finish line. After yesterday’s revolution, could the General Classification change yet again today? We will find out this afternoon.
