Drucker eröffnet die Klassiker Saison für BORA – hansgrohe mit Rang 12 bei Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
Mit Regen und starkem Wind präsentierte sich Omloop Het Nieuwsblad einmal mehr als echter Test für das Fahrerfeld beim Start der Klassiker Saison. Nachdem eine erste Ausreißergruppe bereits 100 km vor dem Ziel gestellt wurde, zeigte sich Lukas Pöstlberger immer wieder in den ersten Gruppen des Rennens. Leider verpasste er die entscheidende Attacke, setzte in der Folge aber zu einer eindrucksvollen Verfolgung an, um eventuell noch um ein Top Ten Ergebnis zu kämpfen. Seine Attacke blieb allerdings unbelohnt und während an der Spitze die Gruppe an der Muur auseinanderfiel, attackierten an diesem Anstieg auch noch einmal die Favoriten aus dem Feld. Am Ende kämpften drei Fahrer an der Spitze um den Sieg, den J. Stuyven einfahren konnte. Jempy Drucker erreichte in Ninove im Sprint der ersten größeren Verfolgergruppe den 12. Rang 1:28 hinter dem Sieger.
Reaktionen im Ziel
„Eigentlich wollte ich nach meinem Defekt gar nicht mehr weiterfahren, denn ich war wirklich extrem weit zurück. Ich bin dann einfach mein eigenes Rennen gefahren und konnte Gruppe für Gruppe wieder einholen. Meine Form ist schon ziemlich gut, aber bei dieser Aufholjagd habe ich natürlich extrem viel Kräfte gelassen. Am Ende war ich in der Gruppe der Favoriten und habe im Sprint noch einmal alles mobilisiert. Auf den letzten 100 m ist mir aber schlicht die Luft ausgegangen. Ich hoffe, dass wir morgen etwas mehr Glück haben.“ – Jempy Drucker

„Das Rennen ist lange Zeit gut gelaufen und ich denke, man konnte auch sehen, dass meine Form sehr gut ist. Leider habe ich die entscheidende Attacke verpasst. Danach habe ich es zuerst alleine versucht, bevor noch vier weitere Fahrer zu mir aufgeschlossen haben. Irgendwie war dann in der Gruppe aber nie richtig Zug drin. Ich weiß nicht, ob die anderen nicht konnten, oder wollten. Aber dadurch wurden wir rund 25 km vor dem Ziel wieder eingeholt. Damit hatte ich mein Pulver verschossen. Wir werden sehen, wie das Rennen morgen läuft. Wenn meine Beine wieder gut sind, werde ich sicher etwas versuchen.“ – Lukas Pöstlberger

The organization of the Amstel Gold Race has announced six wildcards for the only Dutch cycling classic to be held this year on Sunday, April 19.

Circus – Wanty Gobert (België)
Alpecin – Fenix (België)
Sport Vlaanderen – Baloise (België)
Wallonie Bruxelles (België)
Team Arkéa – Samsic (Frankrijk)
Riwal Readynez Cycling Team (Denemarken)

The team of Mathieu van der Poel, who since this year has continued cycling under the name Alpecin-Fenix, is again at the start of the Amstel Gold Race this year. Circus – Wanty Gobert also appears at the start of the 55th Amstel Gold Race and hopes to repeat the trick of 2016 again, when Enrico Gasparotto won in the service of the Belgian cycling team. The classic starts on Sunday 19 April at 10:30 am at the Vrijthof in Maastricht and finishes around 5 pm at the finish location in Vilt-Valkenburg. The peloton has to cover about 260 kilometers this year. There are 35 climbs on the program during the race.
The Amstel Gold Race was won by Kasia Niewiadoma and Mathieu van der Poel in 2019.

The Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition will feature 23 women’s teams

The Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition will be held on April 19th this year. Now in its fourth consecutive year, the women will cover the same 127 km course as previous editions.

“Women’s cycling is becoming more and more professional and at the Amstel Gold Race we are contributing to this by providing a world-class venue and facilities. The women’s race is partly run on the same beautiful course as the men and I have also worked hard to achieve smooth organisation, realistic prizes and starting money, not to mention broad media attention”, says race director Leontien van Moorsel.

This year, 23 teams will line up at the start. This is five more than in 2019. Fifteen teams have an automatic start for this Women’s WorldTour competition.

Starting money for women’s teams higher in this year’s Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition.
Due to regulatory changes from the UCI, the Amstel Gold Race will pay 10,000 euros more in starting money to the various teams this year. This is in addition to the prize money that the Amstel Gold Race pays out to the winners, which is already higher than the UCI prescribes. With this gesture, the Amstel Gold Race continues to make an extra contribution to the development of women’s cycling.

The Amstel Gold Race Ladies Edition will again be broadcast live this year by NOS on NPO 1.
The ladies race starts at 10:50 from the Vrijthof in Maastricht. The 127 km course takes in a number of iconic Dutch hills including the Eyserbosweg and the Keutenberg. In the final stages of the race they will ride four local laps, which include climbs of the Cauberg, Geulhemmerberg and Bemelerberg.
