Postion links an ihm vorbei.

Platz. Vauquélin wurde noch auf den 41. Platz durchgereicht. Van der Poel begnügte sich mit dem 22. Platz.

Tobias Foss signs with the INEOS Grenadiers

The INEOS Grenadiers are delighted to announce that Tobias Foss, the former World Time Trial champion, will join the team from 1 January, 2024.

The 26-year-old Norwegian from Lillehammer, who turned professional in 2020, has signed a three-year contract until the end of 2026.

In 2022, Foss scored the biggest result of his career capturing the World Time Trial title in Wollongong, Australia. His palmares also includes an impressive victory at the Tour de l’Avenir in 2019, as well as twice being crowned Norwegian time trial champion as well as road race champion in 2021.

In celebrating the news of his move, Foss said:
“When I was 14 years old and started cycling, Edvald Boasson Hagen and Team Sky became my idols and my favourite team. After that Chris, Bradley and Geraint inspired me as I dreamt of the Tour de France. All of this made the INEOS Grenadiers my dream team so this was a big factor in me signing, together with my belief that this team can help me further my career.”

“I know some of the guys on the team a bit from before, and my impression is that it is a great group of people within the team. So, I am looking forward to meeting everyone and creating good memories on the bike together. I would like to have a season where I can be consistent with the best. I don’t have any specific goals, but I want to take my chance, contribute to the team getting good results and go for a medal at the Olympics,” he said.

Foss has ridden at the highest level for four seasons and established himself as one of the biggest talents in the pro peloton.
Foss will join a team boasting significant experience in the likes of Tour de France champions Geraint Thomas and Egan Bernal alongside some of the sport’s most exciting young talents.

“I really think there are some proper role models within this team. I am extremely excited to race with these guys and grow in my own experience. The future of the INEOS Grenadiers is very exciting; we have good mentors that we can learn from, so that we, the young riders, can maintain the culture and make this team greater every year.

“I still can’t believe that this is happening, it’s funny as I was the biggest ‘fanboy’ ever of this team and now I am actually in the team!”

John Allert, Managing Director, INEOS Grenadiers said: “Tobias is an exciting and established talent and someone who we believe will reach his full potential with our team. He has clear ambitions for 2024 including the Paris Olympics and the team are looking forward to supporting him in what could be a big year ahead. We’re very pleased to welcome him and wish him every success as a Grenadier.

Steve Cummings, Sport Director, said:
“Tobias is renowned for his time trialling ability, but with what he’s achieved in the past he has also shown he can really climb too. He’s achieved a range of very good results and we fully believe he has the versatility to play a key part in a GC team. We’re all looking forward to working with him and our current group of riders, who are all as motivated and hungry for success as he is in 2024 and beyond.”

Geraint Thomas extends with the INEOS Grenadiers

Geraint Thomas, the popular 2018 Tour de France champion and senior INEOS Grenadier, has agreed a two-year contract extension with the team, to the end of the 2025 season.

The new deal will see Thomas’ time at the team span an incredible 16 years, cementing his status as one of cycling’s most respected riders and an icon of British sport.

Thomas impressed earlier this year in Italy where, despite a disrupted build-up due to injury, he narrowly missed a maiden victory at the Giro d’Italia. He also led the Grenadiers at La Vuelta in September where he suffered several early crashes but still fought all the way to Madrid to complete his second Grand Tour of 2023.

“I am really delighted to extend my time as an INEOS Grenadier. I still just love riding my bike – racing and training with the boys – every single aspect of it,” Thomas said.
“Although you ‘never say never’, in my head this is my last contract – but I know that I still have two more big years in me. And I wouldn’t have continued in a different team.

“This team understands me and, importantly, knows what it takes to achieve success. I have childhood mates here – Luke and Swifty as riders and Stannard now in management, and I’ve known Rod since 2003. This really does feel like home.
“We’re an ambitious group and have some big goals ahead. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in again and want to help the team continue to progress.”

Thomas, who has finished on every step of the podium at the Tour de France, is one of the most experienced riders in the professional peloton. During the course of his career, he has demonstrated his incredible versatility and is a key leader in the Grenadiers.

“I want to continue to be highly competitive in anything really; maybe look at going to the Classics again or ride GC in Grand Tours or help whoever is going to be the next guy coming through, but I just want to have a positive impact on the team.

“I’m at that stage where I’m still hungry to perform but at the same time, I am happy to help the team. I want to try and help us push forward to get back to the very top of the sport.”

The Welshman’s hugely impressive road-racing palmares includes victories at Paris-Nice, Criterium du Dauphine, Tour de Suisse, E3 Harelbeke, Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta, Bayern-Rundfahrt and Commonwealth Games gold.
He is also a double Olympic champion on the track, having won gold medals at the Beijing and London Games.

“The support throughout my career has been amazing, not only from the fans back home but also from America, Australia and all over Europe. That atmosphere on the road is incredible, it’s a huge part of why I love the sport.
“It’s just been an amazing career so far and hopefully it can continue in that way,” said Thomas.

Rod Ellingworth, Deputy Team Principal, said: “We’re thrilled that Geraint’s decided to ride on for another two years as a Grenadier. ‘G’ is such an integral part of our team’s set-up and rider culture. Not only has he won some of the biggest races in the world, but he’s also shown he’s a true champion off the bike, through the crucial role he plays across the wider team and with the younger riders.

“We know that his ambition is to race with the best and we saw this year just how close he came at the Giro d’Italia. He then had some bad luck at La Vuelta which ruled him out of the running but nevertheless fought through to finish with true grit and determination. It was classic G and was still inspiring to watch.

“The team’s ambition is to again stand on the top step of the Tour de France podium and Geraint is going to play an integral part in realising that goal as we bring through a crop of young and exciting talent at the INEOS Grenadiers.”

Ganna and Kuss resist Evenepoel

The individual time trial of La Vuelta 23 saw Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) power to his first ever victory in Spain as he got the best of the world champion Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) in Valladolid. The Italian star covered the 25.8km at an average of 56.0km/h, setting a time of 27’39’’. Evenepoel came 2nd (+16’’) and was the fastest of the GC contenders, 20 seconds ahead of Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), while Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) lost a minute to the Belgian defending winner of La Vuelta. Riding with La Roja, Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) set the 13th best time and only lost 17’’ to Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates), his first chaser in the overall standings. Evenepoel moves up to the third position, with a gap of 1’09’’ to the American leader.

After the rest day, La Vuelta 23 returns to action with a key time trial (25.8km) to kick-off the second week of racing in Valladolid, a classic of the Spanish Grand Tour since it hosted the very first stage finish in 1935. Callum Scotson (Jayco AlUla) is the first rider to go, at 14:01, and Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) will be the last rider off the ramp, at 17:02, with La Roja on his shoulders.

Bissegger can’t resist Ganna
Clément Davy (Groupama-FDJ) sets the first reference of interest, with a time of 30’55’’. But the Frenchman can’t resist the European champion Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-EasyPost), faster at every intermediate point (km 12.5 and 19.5), who eventually clocks a time of 28’58’’. The Swiss rider impressed, but he confesses he “didn’t have the best day”.
Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) starts his effort 44 minutes after Bissegger. And he quickly shows he’s off to a flying performance. A 2-time ITT World Champion (2020, 21), holder of the hour record and current national ITT champion, the Italian star leads by 33’’ at the first intermediate point, 52’’ at the second, and 1’18’’ on the line. He averaged 56.0km/h over the 25.8km!

Evenepoel accelerates, Kuss holds on

The GC battle gets going with a strong performance from Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe), the first rider to finish less than a minute behind Ganna (+52’’). Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) finishes just ahead of Vlasov (+50’’) but Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) is not as fast. The Danish winner of the Tour de France concedes 1’18’’.
Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) trade seconds until the Belgian sets the 2nd best time on the line (+16’’), 20 seconds head of his Slovenian rival. Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) takes the 13th best time and only loses 17’’ to Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates). The American climber still leads the overall standings ahead of another GC battle on Wednesday.
