Dreifach-Weltmeisterin Friedrich und Doppel-Weltmeister Bötticher starten in der UCI Track Champions League

Oktober 2021 – Die dreifache Weltmeisterin Lea Sophie Friedrich und der zweimalige Weltmeister Stefan Bötticher erhalten einen Startplatz im Sprint für die erste Saison der neugeschaffenen UCI Track Champions League. Neben Friedrich und Bötticher sind mit Emma Hinze und Maximilian Levy zwei weitere starke deutsche Sprinter:innen bei der Premiere der neuen, kompakten Rennserie dabei.
Friedrich, deutsche Seriensiegerin in den Velodromen, ist mit ihren drei WM-Titeln und den Erfolgen bei der EM eine der großen Favoritinnen für die Rennen in Sprint und Keirin bei den fünf Events der UCI Track Champions League, die am 6. November auf Mallorca startet.

Die Fans können sich dann auf packende Duelle zwischen Friedrich und ihrer Teamkollegin Emma Hinze freuen: Gemeinsam gewannen sie bei der WM in Roubaix noch Gold im Teamsprint, nun werden sie bei der UCI Track Champions League gegeneinander um Punkte und Prämien kämpfen.

Zu den Gegnerinnen gehören dann auch Sprint-Olympiasiegerin Kelsey Mitchell aus Kanada und die Niederländerin Shanne Braspennincx, die in Tokio im Keirin siegte. Ebenfalls sehr zu beachten sind die drei zweifachen Weltmeisterinnen Daria Shmeleva und Anastasiia Voinova (beide aus Russland) sowie Simona Krupeckaitė (Litauen).
Auch im Starterfeld der Männer sind zwei Deutsche vertreten: Neben dem bereits vorab qualifizierten Maximilian Levy wird auch Stefan Bötticher in Sprint und Keirin um Rennsiege bei den fünf Stationen und die Gesamtwertung der Sprintwettbewerbe kämpfen. Die härteste Konkurrenz wird dabei aus den Niederlanden kommen:
Mit Jeffrey Hoogland und Harrie Lavreysen sind die beiden Gold-Sammler von Olympia und WM mit dabei und dürften für Bötticher (Doppelweltmeister 2013) und Levy (vier WM-Titel von 2009 – 2013) die größten Herausforderer sein.
Insgesamt gehen in der UCI Track Champions League 36 Fahrerinnen und 36 Fahrer in den Kategorien Sprint und Ausdauer an den Start. Sie kämpfen um ein Gesamtpreisgeld von mehr als 500.000 Euro, das zu gleichen Teilen an Frauen und Männer ausgeschüttet wird.
Preisgelder werden für die Plätze eins bis zehn in jedem Rennen der Serie vergeben, wobei die Rennsieger jeweils 1.000 € erhalten. Der Gesamtsieg in jeder Kategorie wird außerdem mit 25.000 Euro belohnt. In der Gesamtwertung wird für jeden Platz ein Preisgeld vergeben.
Die fünfzig nun bekannt gegebenen Fahrer:innen gesellen sich zur prominent besetzten Auswahl der 22 vorqualifizierten Athlet:innen, darunter Harrie Lavreysen, Jeffrey Hoogland, Katie Archibald, Kirsten Wild, Ed Clancy und Emma Hinze. Die finalen 72 Fahrer:innen repräsentieren 30 Nationen und bringen es auf die stattliche Ausbeute von gemeinsam zehn olympischen Goldmedaillen und 63 UCI-Bahnrad-Weltmeistertiteln.

15. Oktober 2021 – Die dreifache Weltmeisterin Emma Hinze und der viermalige Weltmeister Maximilian Levy gehören zu den insgesamt zwölf vorqualifizierten Fahrerinnen im Sprint für die erste Saison der neugeschaffenen UCI Track Champions League.
Levy, der Mitte September seine Laufbahn beendet hatte, sagt zu seiner Teilnahme an der Premierensaison der neuen Bahnradserie: “Mit der UCI Track Champions League ist das so: Ich habe ja mein Karriereende verkündet und dabei bleibt es auch. Ich werde unabhängig davon in Berlin mein letztes Sechstagerennen fahren. Aber wie so oft im Leben, wenn man versucht, sich von einer Beziehung zu trennen, kommt sie nochmal zurück und umarmt einen ganz fest. Die UCI hat mich gefragt, ob ich an der neuen Track Champions League teilnehmen möchte, um auch die Ergebnisse der Olympischen Spiele zu belohnen. Dieses Angebot wollte ich gerne annehmen und so meine persönliche Abschiedstournee ein bisschen verlängern.”
Der 34-Jährige freut sich auf die unverhoffte Möglichkeit, sich im größeren Rahmen von der Radsportbühne verabschieden zu können: “Da ja für Sprinter vermutlich wenige Sechstagerennen stattfinden werden, war das eine willkommene Gelegenheit, nochmal auf die Bahn zurückzukehren und ‘Ciao’ zu sagen. Ich freue mich darauf, auf den verschiedenen Bahnen zu fahren. Es ist eine gute Sache, wenn der Bahnradsport auch beim Weltverband einen höheren Stellenwert bekommt. Rein sportlich habe ich keine riesigen Erwartungen mehr, da ich mich schon ein bisschen dem Triathlon gewidmet habe, beim Laufen bin und schon fünf Kilo abgenommen habe. Trotzdem denke ich, dass schon noch der ein oder andere Erfolg in einem Lauf möglich ist. Ich will das vor allem genießen und dabei einen guten Abschluss meiner Karriere finden.”
Bei den Frauen gehören neben Hinze auch die Olympiasiegerin von Tokio Kelsey Mitchell (Kanada), die Olympia-Silbermedaillengewinnerin Olena Starikova (Ukraine), die dreimalige Europameisterin Mathilde Gros (Frankreich), sowie Simona Krupeckaitė (Litauen) und Keirin-Olympiasiegerin Shanne Braspennincx (Niederlande) zu den vorqualifizierten Fahrerinnen.
Bei den Männern sind neben Levy der amtierende Keirin- und Sprint-Weltmeister Harrie Lavreysen (Niederlande) sowie Teamsprint-Olympiasieger Jeffrey Hoogland (Niederlande) ebenso gesetzt, wie Nicholas Paul (Trinidad & Tobago), Vasilijus Lendel (Litauen) und Denis Dmitriev (Russland).
Diese zwölf gehören zu den 24 vorqualifizierten Fahrer:innen in den Kategorien Sprint und Endurance. Darüber hinaus haben pro Kategorie 24 weitere Fahrer:innen die Chance, sich für die Rennen der UCI Track Champions League zu qualifizieren. Die Auswahl wird durch eine Reihe von Kriterien bestimmt, darunter die Ergebnisse bei den Olympischen Spielen in Tokio und anderen Großveranstaltungen wie dem UCI Track Nations Cup in Cali und den Bahnrad-Europameisterschaften. Auch frühere Erfolge und der allgemeine Status im Sport werden berücksichtigt. Weitere Fahrer:innen werden anhand ihrer Ergebnisse bei den bevorstehenden Tissot UCI Bahnrad-Weltmeisterschaften Ende dieses Monats ausgewählt.

TdF 2022 route: one for the attackers

 The route of the 109th Tour de France, scheduled for the 1st to the 24th July 2022, has been unveiled in its traditional venue in Paris. The Palais des Congrès again opened its doors to thousands, including the reigning champion, Tadej Pogačar, the joint record holder for most stage wins, Mark Cavendish, and two-time world champion Julian Alaphilippe.
 The big hitters of the next Tour discovered a route filled with opportunities to go on the attack on every terrain following the Grand Départ in Copenhagen. The mountains will then set the stage for a series of showdowns to decide who gets to take the yellow jersey home, including the Super Planche des Belles Filles in the Vosges department, the Col du Granon and Alpe d’Huez to wrap up the Alpine chapter of the race, before Peyragudes and the Hautacam in the Pyrenees, where the climbers will have the chance to set the race alight.
 In a historic first, riders from the women’s peloton attended the ceremony to witness the birth of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. The race director, Marion Rousse, announced that the inaugural edition of the race will start on 24th July, heading east before finishing on the Super Planche des Belles Filles on 31st July.

As the world of cycling looks forward to the 2022 Tour de France, the powerful scenes from the previous edition are still fresh in the mind. In the first week, viewers were treated to a no-holds-barred contest from riders who have made their mark on cycling’s current era thanks to their aggressive racing style. Riders such as Julian Alaphilippe, Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert set the tone and inspire the rest of the peloton to follow their example with their victorious escapades. There will be plenty of opportunities for them and the rest to go on the attack throughout the Tour, starting with the Danish stages, where the masters of echelons will be right in their element in the 18 km crossing of the Baltic Sea, coming after a time trial for power riders in Copenhagen, the world capital of cycling, and before the sprint stage that will cap the Scandinavian adventure in Sønderborg.

The peloton will return to French soil in the Nord department. Next up, an exhausting ride to Calais, a serving of Roubaix cobblestones, a launch pad for punchers in Longwy and the first clash between the crown pretenders at La Planche des Belles Filles, this time in its „Super“ version. Unless the weather turns the race into a war of attrition, the 2022 Tour offers mountain goats a prestigious path to the overall title. The Alps will start with a summit finish on the Col du Granon, 2,413 metres above sea level, on the same road that Bernard Hinault wore the yellow jersey for the last time in his career back in 1986, followed by a carbon copy of the stage from Briançon to the Alpe d’Huez, won by the Frenchman after crossing the finish line hand in hand with Greg LeMond. On the way to the Pyrenees, the Saint-Étienne and Carcassone stages have „sprint finish“ written all over them, unlike the one to Mende. At this point, the bell will call the leaders back into their mountain rings. Tadej Pogačar could soar on the ascent to Peyragudes after the Col d’Aspin and the Hourquette d’Ancizan have softened up the legs of the contenders. Regardless of whether he is in yellow by this point, the reigning champion will have to tame his rivals on the road to Hautacam, which will offer no respite with the climbs up the Aubisque and the Col de Spandelles, making its debut in the race. The final time trial will also enter uncharted waters with its finish on the Rocamadour promontory. It will be time to see where everyone stands… 24 hours later, it’ll be time to celebrate the winner on the Champs-Élysées. A new adventure will then begin with the women in the spotlight.

BE HINAULT FOR A DAY ON THE 2022 L’ÉTAPE DU TOUR DE FRANCE
The 30th edition of the L’Étape du Tour de France will be held on 10th July 2022 on the same course as the Tour de France’s 12th stage, stretching for 170 km from Briançon to Alpe d’Huez, featuring the Galibier and the Croix de Fer for a total altitude gain of 4,700 metres.
The cyclosportive event’s fourth finish at Alpe d’Huez is steeped in historical symbolism, as the course is a carbon copy of the 1986 trek from Briançon to Alpe d’Huez on which Bernard Hinault took his final Tour de France stage win.
Registration opens on the timeto.com platform at 4 pm on Monday 18th October. You will need to follow a rigorous training regimen to overcome this extraordinary challenge and raise your arms in celebration in Alpe d’Huez.

WRITING HISTORY WITH THE TOUR DE FRANCE FEMMES AVEC ZWIFT

 Race director Marion Rousse presented the inaugural edition of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, scheduled for 24th to 31st July 2022, at the Palais des Congrès in Paris this morning.
 The eight stages that make up the event capture the essence of cycling past, present and future, from the Champs-Élysées, where the opening stage will be decided right before the men’s Tour de France comes to a close, all the way to the Super Planche des Belles Filles, not to mention the Ballon d’Alsace and a white gravel road stage in the vineyards of Champagne.

„We will be looking back on this in 100 years“, said an enthusiastic Marion Rousse, aware of the historic significance of the birth of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. Indeed, the minds that drew up the route of this watershed event in women’s cycling turned to the legacy of the Grande Boucle for inspiration. The guiding principle of this eight-stage race is to honour the past of the event whilst looking forward to the future and staying true to the standards of the present. The show will get on the road on the Champs-Élysées, which has hosted the final stage of the Tour since 1975 and where the first bouquet will be awarded to whoever wins there on 24th July. A sprint finish is on the cards on the next day in Provins, so the yellow jersey could jump from rider to rider in a merry-go-round, not least because the wearer will also have to defend it on the stage to Épernay… held on the same puncheur-friendly terrain where Julian Alaphilippe lit up the Tour in 2019.
The next stage has something new in store in the heart of the vineyards of Champagne: white gravel roads of the sort that often animate the men’s races, including Paris–Tours and stages over the Plateau des Glières. Halfway through the Tour, Bar-sur-Aube will provide an opportunity to take stock of the situation. The peloton could change tack as it delves deeper into eastern France, starting with a trek through the Alsatian vineyards that will leave breakaway specialists licking their lips. The stage 7 finish at the top of Markstein, in contrast, is one for the mountain goats: the Petit Ballon–Platzerwasel–Grand Ballon sequence will be a Vosges classic of sorts. The closing stage will cram in several hallowed sites of cycling, where legends have been written in every era, from René Pottier, the first rider to go over the Ballon d’Alsace in the 1905 Tour to Tadej Pogačar, who turned the 2020 edition on its head on La Planche des Belles Filles. The women of the class of 2022 will be tackling the „Super“ version of the climb, which is one kilometre longer and will set the stage for the climactic showdown.

Radsport-Fans in ganz Europa können sich ab 2022 auf ein neues Highlight freuen. Discovery Sports macht die “Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift” einem breiten Publikum auf dem gesamten Kontinent zugänglich. Darauf einigten sich Discovery Sports und Eurovision Sport am Donnerstag.
Im kommenden Jahr wird auf den Champs-Élysées Geschichte geschrieben, wenn die erste Auflage mit exklusiver Berichterstattung für Zuschauer in mehr als 50 Märkten in ganz Europa* (außer Frankreich) über das Sender- und Plattformportfolio von Discovery Sports, einschließlich Eurosport, sowie im Streaming über die Eurosport-App, das Global Cycling Network mit GCN+ und discovery+ beginnt. Die Vereinbarung mit Eurovision Sport umfasst auch die exklusiven Rechte*** für die Übertragung des Eintagesrennens Paris-Roubaix Femmes in ganz Europa bis 2025. Anfang Oktober diesen Jahres war die erste Auflage des Rennen bereits auf den Sendern und Plattformen von Discovery Sports zu sehen.
Die acht Etappen der Tour de France Femmes finden vom 24. bis 31. Juli statt und beginnen zeitgleich mit dem Abschluss der Tour de France der Männer in Paris. Die mit Spannung erwartete Strecke der “Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2022” wird vom Veranstalter Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) am heutigen Donnerstag offiziell vorgestellt.

Today we are not in a position to submit our initial application for our UCI WorldTour licence for next year to the sport’s governing body.
We are actively engaged with potential partners, and our current partners, as we work to secure our future for 2022.
Since inception our team has provided hope and opportunity to over 50 riders from Africa who have ridden for us at either Continental, Pro Continental or World Team levels, and as a result have had the opportunity to showcase their talent and realise their dreams.
The recent news that Rwanda will host the 2025 World Championships is a huge moment for our sport, and one that we are very proud of in the role we have played in support of Africa, its cycling potential and as a destination to ride. Seeing Biniam Ghirmay from Eritrea come 2nd in the U23 World Championships this year was incredible. He was just 14 years old when Daniel Teklehaimanot wore the King of the Mountains jersey in the 2015 Tour de France with our team. Their stories, as well as the journey of Nicholas Dlamini from the townships in Cape Town to the Tour de France, are inspirational.
Across our Continental and World Team outfits we have staff and riders that champion our message – bicycles change lives – and enable us to be a platform to raise awareness and funds for the Qhubeka Charity.
We are completely unique across the sporting landscape as a purpose-led organisation that during the course of our decade-long partnership with Qhubeka has seen our team raise over $6M for the Charity, and in the process changed thousands of lives.
We remain confident that our story is not complete, our journey will carry on, to continue to change lives through bicycles.
I have always said that our dream for this team would be to see a young person from Africa, who starts their journey on a Qhubeka bike, one day race on cycling’s most famous road – the Champs Elysée. That will see the dream fully realised.

Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ) won a thrilling 115th edition of Paris-Tours on Sunday ahead of Franck Bonnamour (B&B Hotels p/b KTM) and Jasper Stuyven (Trek-Segafredo). The pace was relentless from the start, with a hard battle through the wind, and the attackers lit fireworks on the vineyard trails leading to Tours. Among them, Bonnamour was still alone in the front with San Dewulf as they entered the last kilometre… But Démare, after a strong attack on the final climb of the day, produced a massive effort to bridge the gap and dominate the four-man sprint. He is the first French winner of Paris-Tours since 2006, when Frédéric Guesdon claimed victory. Today, Guesdon was in perfect position to enjoy Démare’s win, as a sports director for Groupama-FDJ.

The 152-man peloton roll from Chartres just before noon. With winds blowing from the North-East and riders battling for the early breakaway, it’s a very fast start.
Gijs Leemreize (Jumbo-Visma) attacks in the first kilometre. He is quickly joined by Julien Duval (AG2R-Citroën Team) but they can’t open much of a gap as the battle is ongoing.
After 15km, Rune Herregodts (Sport-Vlaanderen-Baloise), winner of Paris-Tours Espoirs in 2020, bridges the gap to the early attackers. The break eventually gets away, with a lead of 2’30’’ at km 18.

Hard battles in the wind
Groupama-FDJ put the hammer down through the wind and the peloton splits in several parts. Calm returns at km 30 and the gap hits a maximum of 7’30’’ after a very fast first hour of racing (47.1km covered by the attackers).
Several teams (Team DSM, Alpecin-Fenix, Team TotalEnergies, St Michel – Auber 93…) work together to control the breakaway. The gap is down to 3’30’’ when a new acceleration in the bunch turns the race upside down into the last 100km.
Only 34 riders remain in the first bunch, including the three former winners participating in this edition: Casper Pedersen and Soren Kragh Andersen for Team DSM, as well as AG2R Citroën’s Greg Van Avermaet. With such a battle through the wind, the breakaway is reeled in at km 124.

Fireworks in the vineyards
The 37 leaders hit the first vineyard track (51km to go) with a 30’’ gap to their chasers. Arkéa-Samsic try to make the most of their numbers at the front with a series of attacks. But Connor Swift suffers a puncture with 43km, after he had managed to launch a new breakaway.
Stan Dewulf (AG2R Citroën Team), Frederik Frison (Lotto Soudal) and Franck Bonnamour (B&B Hotels p/b KTM) remain at the front. Riders previously dropped get back together and Jasper Stuyven’s Trek-Segafredo try to control.

Impressive Démare
Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ) attacks again and again until a group of six chasers get away with 16km to go. Among them, Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ) and Jasper Stuyven (Trek-Segafredo) drop their rivals on the final climb of the day, the côte de Rochecorbon.
With 10km to go to Tours, without any vineyard track left ahead, they’re only 8’’ behind the leading duo. They held on… until Arnaud Démare produced a strong effort inside the last kilometre. Bonnamour and Dewulf were eventually caught with 350m to go. And Démare still had enough energy to sprint to victory.

BORA-hansgrohe bei der Lombardei-Rundfahrt nicht im Spitzenfeld

Das letzte Monument des Jahres, die 239 km lange Lombardei-Rundfahrt zwischen Como und Bergamo stand heute an. Der in der Vergangenheit oftmals entscheidende Anstieg zur Madonna del Ghisallo war in diesem Jahr der erste der sieben Anstiege des Tages. Vor dem Ziel stellte sich den Fahrern noch eine kurze jedoch steile Rampe in den Weg, ehe es dann in der Abfahrt in die Altstadt von Bergamo ging. Mit vielen Kletterprüfungen und rund 4500 Höhenmetern war dies ein sehr schweres Rennen. Nachdem sich eine Ausreißergruppe absetzen konnte blieb die Rennsituation für lange Zeit stabil bis die verbleibenden Spitzenreiter rund 55 km vor dem Ziel gestellt waren. Im letzten Anstieg zerfiel das reduzierte Feld mit Felix Großschartner und es kam zu mehreren Attacken aus der Gruppe der Favoriten. Felix musste zu diesem Zeitpunkt leider abreißen lassen, während sich an der Spitze T. Pogacar absetzen konnte. In der letzten Abfahrt schloss F. Masnada zu Pogacar auf, und als der Slowene auf der Zielgeraden seinen Sprint anzog, konnte sein Kontrahent aber nicht mehr gegenhalten und feierte seinen Sieg in Bergamo.

„Es war ein hartes Rennen von Anfang an, ganz so wie wir es erwartet haben. Wir haben schon gehofft, dass wir noch mal vorne mitfahren könnten und das wäre ein schöner Abschluss gewesen, aber die anderen waren heute einfach besser. Am Ende ging uns die Energie aus. Aber man muss das akzeptieren. Ich freue mich jetzt auf die Pause und hoffe, dass ich nächstes Jahr wieder in guter Form zurückkehre.“ – Felix Großschartner
„Natürlich war das Ergebnis nicht das, was wir uns erhofft haben. Wir hatten schon gedacht, dass wir mit Matteo, Patrick und Felix um eine vordere Platzierung mitkämpfen können. PARIS-TOURS 2021: INFO WITH ONE DAY TO GO

 The 115th edition of Paris-Tours, which will start from Chartres on Sunday morning, follows the same route as last year, with a 212.3 km course including nine vineyard trails in the last 51 km.
 A nice field of sprinters (Philipsen, Démare, Groenewegen), heroes of the recent Paris-Roubaix (Vermeersch, Laporte, Turgis) and three former winners are at the rendezvous of the last classic of the year.
 Defending champion Casper Pedersen promises to be “on the attack” with a strong DSM squad also featuring 2018 winner Soren Kragh Andersen.

A WINDY THRILLER
Paris-Tours is always a thriller of a race, and the 115th edition of the classic should be no exception with a cohort of classics experts (Stuyven, Laporte, Turgis…) to try and upset a strong field of sprinters (Philipsen, Démare, Groenewegen…). “We’ve found our formula and we’re repeating last year’s route, with seven climbs and nine vineyard trails in the last 50km”, race director Cédric Coutouly explains. “The trails are preceded by climbs, so the legs do the positioning. It’s hard for the teams to work well together so a lone rider doesn’t lose much time against the peloton. It will be nice weather, and the wind will blow from the North-East. So there could be a risk of echelons, but it’s coming mostly from behind so we should have a very fast start, and then, once on the trails, the wind direction will change a lot so it will be a factor.” With all these elements, “the riders who were at the front towards Roubaix should also be up there on Sunday”, Coutouly foresees. Among them, the young and talentful Florian Vermeersch (Lotto Soudal) is looking for a maiden professional victory…

PEDERSEN : ”WE WILL BE ON THE ATTACK”
Three former winners will be at the start. Among them, AG2R-Citroën Team’s Greg Van Avermaet (winner in 2011) is a veteran of Paris-Tours, with 10 participations under his belt, but he hasn’t come since 2016 and thus doesn’t know the new format with vineyard trails. The other two former winners ride with Team DSM, with the Dane Soren Kragh Andersen (2018) and his compatriot Casper Pedersen, the defending champion, who rose to victory after Kragh Andersen suffered a crash. “We have several cards to play”, Pedersen says in 2021 as well. “I think our team is stronger than last year. We will be on the attack with classics experts such as Soren Kragh Andersen and Nils Eekhoff. And if it ends up with a sprint, we’ll ride for Cees Bol. Looking at the start-list, it may be harder this year. It will be interesting to see if sprint teams will be able to control and if sprinters can follow attacks on the climbs.”

LAPORTE: “AN ATTRACTIVE RACE”
Sixth in Paris-Roubaix and back in action this Sunday, Christophe Laporte says he took longer than usual to recover from Hell of the North and the toll it took on everyone with dire conditions. “But I’m in a good shape, I feel ready and motivated for Sunday. It’s hard to stay motivated at the end of the season, but Paris-Tours is an attractive race, it is one of the biggest in France.“ His 7th participation in the Classic of the Falling Leaves, his first in three years, will have a very special flavor. „I will really give the maximum for my last race in the Cofidis jersey“, Laporte promises as he’s set to leave the French team to join Jumbo-Visma, who come to Paris-Tours with the sprinter Dylan Groenewegen and the recent winner of the Ronde de l’Isard, Gijs Leemreize. “I expect an open race in the finale, and that’s what I like. If I feel good, I won’t wait for a sprint.”

YOUNGSTERS GET THE ACTION ROLLING
Before the pros, the famous Avenue de Grammont will be surveyed by cadets and juniors (men and women) participating in the Kilomètre de Paris-Tours, then by riders in the Under 23 category. Paris-Tours Espoirs, celebrating its 78th edition, has always revealed the talents of tomorrow. Three of the top four in last year’s edition are competing in the elite event this Sunday: Rune Herregodts (1st), Jordi Meeus (2nd) and Jason Tesson (4th). The 3rd, Florian Dauphin (VCP Loudéac), is again at the start of the U23 race, five days after a solid ride among the pros in Binche-Chimay-Binche (20th). His French compatriot Louis Barré (4th in Liège-Bastogne-Liège Espoirs), the Norwegian Soren Waerenskjold (winner of two stages of the Tour de l’Avenir) and the Belgian Arnaud De Lie (winner Friday of the 2nd stage of the Circuit des Ardennes) count among the main favorites who will try to succeed Thor Hushovd, Tom Boonen, Tony Gallopin and Mike Teunissen on the Paris-Tours Espoirs winners list. The race will start from Bonneval and follow the last 177 kilometers of the professional race.

The 115th edition of Paris-Tours enjoys increased coverage with 25 broadcasters making the race available for the fans in 190 territories. The last 1h50 of action will be broadcasted live. Highlights are also available through news agencies and dedicated cycling media, as well as on the official website of the race and on its social media. The first images of the day will be broadcasted on Facebook and Twitter with the team presentation (from 10 AM) and the first pedal strokes as the peloton rolls from Chartres (11:40).
